For starters--the more so since this is apparently a newly-created thread--, I would humbly suggest a huge improvement in the thread title!

I think it would be far better as "Christianity and the Baha'i Faith" rather then using the truly regrettable term "vs." which implies a conflict that isn't necessarily either always the case or even desired!

I hope whoever's managing this thread can make this correction.

Bruce

Bruce vs. JBF!

Hi Bruce, changing the title is JBF's call if it was early on.  Changing a title is normally frowned upon once there are posts because it changes the context of the posts.  The author's specific intent and meaning must be respected if reasonable.  Debates (vs) are obviously AOK.

Another thread can always be made.  :bigwink:

Hi Bruce,

The sad truth is there is enough conflict between the two faith's that I found "vs" to be very appropriate. I don't see a need for any correction. The implication was made because there is conflict...lots.

Please let me assure you that this is not only far, far from what we Baha'is want, but that it is outright forbidden in our scriptures, which state:

6  "Conflict and contention are explicitly forbidden in His [God's] Book."

-- From the Book of the Covenant

"O ye beloved of the Lord!? In this sacred Dispensation, conflict and contention are in no wise permitted. Every aggressor deprives himself of God's grace. It is incumbent upon everyone to show the utmost love, rectitude of conduct, straightforwardness and sincere kindliness unto all the peoples and kindreds of the world, be they friends or strangers. So intense must be the spirit of love and loving-kindness, that the stranger may find himself a friend, the enemy a true brother, no difference whatsoever existing between them. For universality is of God and all limitations earthly. Thus man must strive that his reality may manifest virtues and perfections, the light whereof may shine upon everyone. The light of the sun shineth upon all the world and the merciful showers of Divine Providence fall upon all peoples. The vivifying breeze reviveth every living creature and all beings endued with life obtain their share and portion at His heavenly board. In like manner, the affections and loving-kindness of the servants of the One True God must be bountifully and universally extended to all mankind. Regarding this, restrictions and limitations are in no wise permitted.

"Wherefore, O my loving friends!? Consort with all the peoples, kindreds and religions of the world with the utmost truthfulness, uprightness, faithfulness, kindliness, good-will and friendliness."

-- From the Writings of 'Abdu'l-Baha

Peace,

Bruce

Bruce!  I think you broke that rule when you told me I act like I have a substance abuse problem as I explained how I, a grown responsible adult, will certainly NOT be bothering God if I drink a glass of wine with dinner this weekend.

In fact, I never said you had one, and obviously I'm in no position to know that for sure, anyhow!

What I did was give you a friendly warning that this is the impression you seemed to be conveying, however inadvertantly!

(When someone seems to reduce an entire thread to repeated stressing of a single issue, I think it may sometimes be apropos to say "are you aware that  .  .  .")

And as I'm pretty sure I said then, no offense whatever was intended!  I'm also sure my own faults (which are many) are at least as great as yours or anybody else's here.

(I suppose all I can really say in my own defense is to quote "Never attribute to hostility that which is adequately explained by incompetence!")

Peace,

Bruce

Only if one views this as a competition, which I hope no one here does!

Bruce, I wasn't offended at all, I am just making a point.  When someone picks a single issue for a while it might just be because they find it effective at demonstrating something, especially when they may lack other examples.  Jumping to "you are coming off as having a substance abuse problem" is definitely sidetepping my point at the time and therefore being unnecessarily combative, personal, and engaging in forbidden conflict.  Calling it "friendly advice" doesn't make you less of a rule-breaker or too quick to judge.

Yes, we all have faults, but one of mine is not enjoying a glass of wine at dinner once in a while.  I don't think reasonable, clear-thinking, modern people are supposed to be in the ridiculous position of buying that God used to be OK with drinking wine at dinner and rod-beating your slaves to keep them orderly during the OT, but now will get upset if you drink some wine with your fish this Saturday evening.

Bruce, I am not interested in debating, I just wanted to give you "friendly advice" too since your comments stuck out to me. :)  Like you, I am not engaging in conflict.  ::shades::

I choose to not participate in this thread.

As a Bahá'í, I believe Christianity and the Bahá'í Faith share the same Divine origin, therefor I do not believe it is productive or even correct to participate in an antagonistic debate.  There is but One God, Indivisible and All-Mighty.

Have fun!

:iagree::smart:

I'm with Britt on this one.  I did not come here to debate.  If it appears that I have, it's only to correct some of the misconceptions that have been hurled about.
