It's true, so watch your attitude.  It has been written and Bruce can provide a website link to God's new rules.

Three of them, actually.  And more if you allow me to search a bit  .  .  .

::chuckle::  You're a good sport, Bruce!  Seriously though, is God going to get annoyed, sad, or whatever it may be if I smoke some weed at my cousin's house this summer?

Not for me to say.

All I can do is tell you what the scriptures state.

The rest (and often, even finding that much out) is your domain.

Bruce

Hi Bruce - that's what I am asking you!  Do the scriptures indicate that God is angry at "peace pipe" smokers?

Judge for yourself:

Regarding hashish you have pointed out that some Persians have become habituated to its use. Gracious God! This is the worst of all intoxicants, and its prohibition is explicitly revealed. Its use causeth the disintegration of thought and the complete torpor of the soul. How could anyone seek the fruit of the infernal tree, and by partaking of it, be led to exemplify the qualities of a monster? How could one use this forbidden drug, and thus deprive himself of the blessings of the All-Merciful? Alcohol consumeth the mind and causeth man to commit acts of absurdity, but this opium, this foul fruit of the infernal tree, and this wicked hashish extinguish the mind, freeze the spirit, petrify the soul, waste the body and leave man frustrated and lost.

-- The Book of Laws, p. 239

[D]rinking and the use of drugs are strictly forbidden, and the Bahá’ís should obey this command.

-- Light of Divine Guidance, Volume 1, p. 117

Concerning the use of alcoholic drinks and drugs, … they have been explicitly forbidden in the [Book of Laws].

-- Official letter, December 27, 1933

[A chaste and holy life] requires total abstinence from all alcoholic drinks, from opium, and from similar habit-forming drugs.  Heroin, hashish and other derivatives of cannabis such as marijuana, as well as hallucinogenic agents such as LSD, peyote and similar substances, are regarded as falling under this prohibition.

--The Book of Laws, p. 238

Peace,

Bruce

Please let me assure you that this is not only far, far from what we Baha'is want, but that it is outright forbidden in our scriptures, which state:

6  "Conflict and contention are explicitly forbidden in His [God's] Book."

-- From the Book of the Covenant

"O ye beloved of the Lord!? In this sacred Dispensation, conflict and contention are in no wise permitted. Every aggressor deprives himself of God's grace. It is incumbent upon everyone to show the utmost love, rectitude of conduct, straightforwardness and sincere kindliness unto all the peoples and kindreds of the world, be they friends or strangers. So intense must be the spirit of love and loving-kindness, that the stranger may find himself a friend, the enemy a true brother, no difference whatsoever existing between them. For universality is of God and all limitations earthly. Thus man must strive that his reality may manifest virtues and perfections, the light whereof may shine upon everyone. The light of the sun shineth upon all the world and the merciful showers of Divine Providence fall upon all peoples. The vivifying breeze reviveth every living creature and all beings endued with life obtain their share and portion at His heavenly board. In like manner, the affections and loving-kindness of the servants of the One True God must be bountifully and universally extended to all mankind. Regarding this, restrictions and limitations are in no wise permitted.

"Wherefore, O my loving friends!? Consort with all the peoples, kindreds and religions of the world with the utmost truthfulness, uprightness, faithfulness, kindliness, good-will and friendliness."

-- From the Writings of 'Abdu'l-Baha

Peace,

Bruce

Well, getting to the truth and cutting through lies often involves contention and conflicts Bruce. You will find lot's of this in the bible as the truth was being spead in the 1st Century. Sounds to me like the Baha'i don't care about fighting for they believe in. It doesn't sound like a faith that's worth fighting for to me?:dunno:

Jesus said, "Take heed that no one deceives you."

It behoveth you, in this day, to proclaim aloud the Most Great Name among the nations. Prefer ye to be silent, whilst every stone and every tree shouteth aloud: 'The Lord is come in His great glory!' ...He that summoneth men in My name is, verily, of Me, and he will show forth that which is beyond the power of all that are on earth... Let the Breeze of God awaken you. Verily, it hath wafted over the world. Well is it with him that hath discovered the fragrance thereof and been accounted among the well-assured....

Yes, that's right, Aethel. The Hebrew religion allowed BYOB at religious festivals.

I'll pass this one off to one of the Christians. It's just too hard for me to decide on which snarky comment to reply with.

Alcohol is an important part of many religious ceremonies. These ceremonies are suppose to please gods, not depress them.

Hi again, Frank!  :-)

I'm not sure what an "addictive food" is (though I suspesct lobster tail might well qualify :-) ).

And of course, my opinion isn't what counts!

Caffeine is permitted, apparently because it's not harmful, at least in moderation.

Tobacco isn't prohibited, but our scriptures do condemn it as a filthy habit.

Regards,

Bruce

Bruce, a few questions I may.

1 - What if it was proven that caffeine can be more harmful than a glass of wine with dinner?

2 - If the Bible condones alcoholic beverages, how can your faith not be in conflict with it?

3 - What about medical marijuana?

4 - Why does God condone the eating of terrible foods, like McDonalds, packaged processed junk, etc. that science can show cause more damage than marijuana a glass of wine with dinner?

Sure, if you want to base your life on 3,000-year-old law long since viewed as superceded by most people.  .  .  .

If you want to base your life on Jewish law and practice, be my guest!

I choose to go with law and practice revealed for THIS Age, thankyouverymuch.

YMMV.  (What else is new?)

Peace,

Bruce
