Where? Please quote, and give book title and page number.

Secondly, Willow Rosenberg on the TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" once called on Hecate, pagan Greek goddess of witchcraft, to help her cast a spell. This despite the fact that in a different episode Willow refused to observe Christmas because of her Jewish upbringing. Somehow Willow never read the Biblical teaching "You shall not suffer a witch to live".

Yet I don't see millions of Christians on the Internet screaming that we should stop re-running episodes of Buffy.
Have any of you ever noticed that there's no mention of God in any of Harry's books?
Have you ever noticed that in the Book of Esther in the Bible there is no mention of God?
How "good" and evil always seem to balance out with no clear triumph over the evil forces?
Right. But we stopped the Ku Klux Klan and the Mafia. Nobody kidnaps children and forces them to do porn films. Nobody blows up buildings with truck bombs or lets poison gas loose in a subway. Etc., etc., etc.

In what percentage of real life has there been a clear triumph over evil forces?

Isn't it amazing 1jester how the Baha'i faith believers will defend sorcery, witchcraft and Islam...yet attempt at every turn to diminish the credibility of the bible and Christianity? The fruit of the Baha'i teaching is now clearly showing up on the branches wouldn't you say?::scratch::

This is all I wish to say regarding Harry Potter. Congratulations Saint with your forum.::thumbs::

oh for heaven's sake. it's a kids' fiction book. fantasy. so were the fairy tales i read as a girl. it's not secret code for satanists. i say we ban trick or treat too, after all, the kids may all become evil. i was a witch every year and i became evil. yep, it was fiction that turned me to the dark side. what total crap. religion has no place in this thread. IT'S AN INNOCENT BOOK! oh wait....we should BURN BOOKS!! i forgot. let me light the pyre.

1. No Christian has ever shown one single piece of evidence that what is written in the Harry Potter books is "sorcery and witchcraft". Can you give us the name and address of anyone in the entire world who can cast spells from what is in the HP books?

2. Islam is a revelation from God. Of course we defend it.

3. We are not diminishing the credibility of the Bible and Christianity. Your steadfast refusal to answer our questions or even LOOK AT the evidence we provide says a great deal about YOUR credibility.

Lady, I respectfully beg to differ.  I know my plea will fall on many deaf ears, but if I am to be silenced, then I have failed God.  As JBF has stated, I will not continue this discussion in this thread, but please understand my only aim is to help people understand how the devil works on this earth, and how dangerous this type of literature is.

PS:  It's awfully strange for you to begin your post by invoking heaven, then advocate a point of view counter to what is contained in God's word.

Peace to all.

What, specifically, is dangerous about the Harry Potter books and similar literature?

a point of view counter to what is contained in God's word.
How is saying "the HP books are innocent" counter to what is contained in God's Word?

I don't like Harry Potter and all the merchandising crud that pollutes the internet and the street bearing his smug self satifisfied four eyed face but................

The fact he gets fundamentallist christians knickers in a twist is brilliant !

I'd rather my daughter read about the adventures of a boy wizard than the bible that contains :- incest, rape, slavery, infanticide, matricide, torture, mass murder, etc, etc, etc ad infinitum.

The Harry Potter books are works of FICTION for cryin' out loud. We have a forum for religion and philosophy right here:
 http://www.24hourforums.com/view_forum.php?id=60

I wish all you holier-than-thou religious freaks would go there and foster your own little paranoid fantasies on each other instead of ruining this thread.

Looks like I missed all the fun.  On the other hand, I bought my first Harry Potter book, "The Half-Blood Prince" and I am  enjoying it immensely. Reads like any other sci-fi / fantasy book i have ever read.

It came out here at midnight on Friday...I was there on the dot as they were being wheeled out! I read it in two days, it was excellent as always!!

How can anyone manage to turn a convo about a book into stuff about god btw? As far as I'm aware, most novels have no mention of god. Stick to the bible if you're that obsessed mate!

Anyway, back to the story..I won't give any of the story away, but a few people die and it's a bit sad in places, but the last few chapters all come together to answer a lot of things that were left hanging in 'Half-Blood Prince.'
Enjoy!

I decided that I'm not going to ruin it for myself.  I'm reading the "Half Blood Prince" right now and yesterday as I was shopping I saw a stack of "Deathly Hallows" for cheap, ($17) so I bought one. Then I saw that they were haviong book wars at the major book stores for $24 to $28? Hmmm...Go Walmart.

Now I'm stuck trying not to get any spoilers before I can get to it!  What a game!  LOL!

Anyway... I am very impressed with how easy tto read J.K. Rowling's style is.  I had assumed it would be a little less accessible like Tolkein or something.
