With a ton of air pollution already from two coal fired power plants, Sith Global, an evil corporation blamed for almost everything wrong on the planet right now is attemtping to  build another one. 

The air pollution is so bad now that it can be seen from space and yet, Sithe Global allowed only 30 days for the public to read its 1,600 page environmental impact statement.

Here's my take on this:

Dear Editor:

    Mercury. One of the most terrible poisons known to mankind.  It attacks the nervous system causing slow death, insanity, and senility.  It is a mutagen.  It can jump the placental barrier and cause monstrous mutations in babies. It was responsible for the worst industrial disaster of the twentieth century when it almost completely destroyed a town the size of Farmington named Mimimata, Japan. 

Numbness occurred in the limbs and lips of its people. Their speech became slurred, and their vision constricted.  Some people had serious brain damage, while others lapsed into unconsciousness or suffered from involuntary movements.  Furthermore, some victims were thought to be crazy when they began to uncontrollably shout. People thought the cats were going insane when they witnessed "suicides" by the cats.  Finally, birds were dropping from the sky. Fifty years later, the few survivors are still in the process of suing the corporation responsible, but the city as it was is decimated and destroyed.

    You are breathing it right now.  By the ton. And the new power plant will pour more tons of mercury into the lungs of yourself and your family. Worse yet, Sithe Global, an evil division of The Blackstone Group and the corporation that proposes building yet another polluting power plant next to us, is credited with almost single-handedly buying up most of the planet in a migration of companies from public to private hands (a total of some $370 billion in deals in the U.S. in 2006.) It has been blamed for everything from massive insurance fraud, to insider trading and the 13 billion dollar loss of real estate values.

    Will we be so naive as to trust this massive, uncaring, evil, and greedy world corporation with our lives, the lives of our children, and the future life of our city? Does anyone think this massive entity will care if it has to sacrifice a small southwestern town so that it can make huge profits and light Las Vegas? The destruction of Farmington and its surrounding communities will be a small, sad note in history as this juggernaut rolls over us.

Some people have said that it will bring jobs. Well, that may be true, but so would a wind farm or a solar power plant.  Even a nuclear plant would be preferable to this.

    Let me put it to you this way:  You may get a job.  You may make a lot of money.  But you can't spend it if you and everyone you love is disabled or dead. Stop this monster now, or it may be too late for all of us.

Good intentions, facts, and all the best in stopping the coal plant. Although much of the mercury does fall locally with other toxins, it is able to travel thousands of miles and CO2 goes global.
It is sobering to note that the Communist Chinese are building one dirty coal plant per week. The brown cloud travels from China visible from space and hits our NW coast, mainly, with over a hundred toxins present. Dropping in China, the Pacific, and sometimes all the way to the US Continental Divide. Even wilderness lake fish have restrictive amounts of mercury chloride, let alone the Pacific fish and shellfish.
It is noteworthy that our reference for evil is black and filthy like coal and oil, and like the souls of the greedy careless profiteers.

Of course, pal.
It is a moral thing to use resources at the rate they are made, and conserve them for the future people. Using coal and oil at a million times their regeneration rate or so is immoral in that respect, and worse with the effects of the pollution. It would be nice to say "forgive them for they know not what they do", but they know full well, and still care only for themselves, and now.
