This was one that I wrote in 1991/1992, when that other Bush was president. It seems we have a case of the same old same old with the current administration, and this is just as pertinent now,if not more, as then. This one was also published in the local newspapers here in Chattanooga.

We The People

The malls are all empty
The stores have all closed
Where's all the people
Does anybody know?
The factories are shut down
The workplace is quiet
People in the streets
Are getting ready to riot.

The people in Washington say
"It's not as bad as it seems
WE make plenty of money
It's the American dream"
But our dreams turned to nightmares
We're all out in the cold
While the folks in the Capitol
Are stealing our gold

Now all of you Senators
And Congressmen alike
The taxpayer's tired
They're getting ready to strike
They're backed in a corner
No place left to go
The play has been written
Now it's time for the show

Stand up all you citizens
The government is us
It's time to stop sitting
In the back of the bus
Let's all move up front now
And then make a stand
For to long a time
We've had our heads in the sand

We the people have voted
The die has been cast
If we don't act together
Our country can't last
Let's turn it around now
And head the right way
The political machine
Has been to long at play
