 The last post I made there about My friend Kate and my antics last night with the aid of a bottle of vodka.    I posted that we spoke of Bush,  perhaps I should explain, that the whol of Europe is not engrossed with him, it's just that Kate moved here to Spain from America, the same time as we did from England.  So some topics we discuss other than life in Spain and the kids are topical US....hence the Bush bit.    It's usually a distasteful subject for us both, so we normally get it out of the way early on in the day! :D  (That was supposed to be funny...ok!)

Anyway,  we have a lot of fun AND frustrations with the differences in our cultures.  You would have thought that compared to trying to communicate generally with us both living in SPain, that to be American and English would be easy... but NO.  We find the differences crop up often leaving us with blank expressions.

Anyway, I had a laugh the day before, as Kate had had to work at short notice and left her youngest (just turned 5) with me for several hours).     By the time Kate came to pick her up, I had instilled 3 new phrases to the 5yr olds vocabulary, and she knew what circumstances to use them....

They were..

MMMMM, that is SIMPLY delicious!  (When something tastes real scrummie!)

Goodness Gracious, how unfortunate.  (for bad things that happen, like someone trips)

Goodness Gracious how fortunate (for good things that happen!)


To hear this barely vocal 5 year old american child utter these phrases is really funny, but how it made her Mother smile!  :D
