Tell the truth, do you get "points" with Rina for learning the language and is that your main motivation? In other words, do the "points" ya get from her outweigh the actual practical use or need for learning the language?

Points? My reasons for learning filipino are as follows Reason#1: rina has expressed a want to move back to the philippines so knowing some filipino is useful Reason#2: learning filipino gives me a better idea of what is said and written in filipino cause rina and her sisters write in filipino a lot of times Reason#3: when surrounded by people who speak filipino it tends to help if you understand what is being said Reason#4: understanding filipino helps avoid any misunderstandings cause sometimes filipino words can sound bad but aren't ment to Reason#5: since rina is filipino why not learn her language and when she speaks to me in filipino which she has it would help if i understood her right off the bat and not ask for that statement or word in english Seems that i do have legit reasons for wanting to learn her language I don't do this for points, i dont have to learn her language it's not really needed but i'm one who thinks that knowing another language is useful and since most of her family is filipino it would make sense to learn to speak some right? You definitely have a practical set of reasons. Good luck, hard to learn a language as an adult, especially not closely related to your own.

So, are you learning Tagalog or a different dialect? I have a few friends with native-born Filipino parents. My friend Lee's mom makes her own longanisa from scratch! Oh, and it is so good. Tagalog is a fun language, especially because of the Spanish influence. I speak Español like a second grader, ha-ha, so I am able to grasp some Tagalog. My friend's mom calls him "Bobo" when she is angry with him, tee-hee. "Bobo" means "dumb". My pet beta is named Bobo. It is meant as a loving name; he is actually quite a smart fish.
