I was "out in the shed" today fabricating a 52x36 sealed P.B.D. (parallel blade damper) and after spending an hour gathering my tools needed to work. I came across a twine encased stack of old newspapers.

I thought nothing of it and tossed it in the corner. I did my work, (3 hrs later!) and as I was cleaning up I snagged a beer from the fridge, pulled up a chair, and thumbed through the old 1948 papers. The front page had a bunch of kids raising hell. Ya think!

And a bunch of baseball scores...........never forget baseball!!!!

This reminded me of yesterdays paper (Fri.) when a couple high school kids had ggreased the banister to watch the gym teacher wipe out on the stairs....::shades::

Next I grabbed a paper with a bunch of atomic talk. Now remember this is around 1948............stay with me..........

Now THIS reminded me of today! Even then countries were fighting a war within. people were scared of "the bomb" and all the implications that came with it. Churchill had a rough time as a politician...some hated him, but today few can see the day to day bull that he went through........same as today.

The next picture is the scene of a drunk-driving accident. At least thats what I think went on.

Now to the meat of the matter. What I learned today is that what happens today has already happened years ago, people are more paranoid today because the internet gives us more untrusted information. The things that happened in 1948 could have been pulled off todays headlines!

These headlines gives me faith in diplomacy,  faith in the future......and a new-found faith in man.

.........Happy Easter......:D

It's kinda strange reading old papers, tommorrow as the ham is cooking, me and my brother will probly sit by the woodstove and read through the stack. There must be 30-40 full papers to sift through. Mostly from Haverhill Mass. I found a few from Boston and maybe 10 from N.H. All from odd dates like Friday the 13th and Jan 1st and Dec 25th I cannot even remember where I got them from maybe a yard sale or something.....I miss yard sales!:verysad:

Cool.  I do not have any really old papers, but I do have saved a copy of an "extra" edition our local paper did on Sept. 2001. It was just about 5 pages, but I have it preserved, and will pass it on to the grandkids.  I was going through my desk drawer the other day and came across it.

When I was younger I saved many of the papers from the first moonwalk.  Also the papers when Robert Kennedy was shot.  But my mom, considered them "just junk" and threw them all out in a cleaning frenzy one time.
