I collect miniatures in metal and plastic to play wargames on a table with miniature terrain. Rules sets vary for military period and scale of most figures run from 2mm tall to 25mm tall. There is a plethora of new plastic 1/72 scale (20mm) which makes the hobby very inexpensive. Painting miniatures, creating models for the table top terrain provide many areas of interest in war gaming. It's also a social event when folks get together to game. http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/ Regards, Scott

That's a great educational and fun hobby, Scott! A long time ago I used to collect medieval fantasy type miniatures.

24HourNut wrote: Count me in for a yes vote on that! Flames of War is a New ZAealand Published game system for World War Two. It's very popular and available at hooby and game stores as well as on line. The publisher also puts out boxes of figures to represent a company of troops or armour in a box. They're in 100th scale and made of pewter. The boxes tend to be pricey in my estimation. I usually game it in 1/72nd scale with plastic figures and vehicle models, or even cardstock 3D vehicle models which are very mnice but rather time consuming 9but CHEAP!) ![]() that's a plastic 1/72nd Sherman tank available from HaT miniatures (ArmorFast) or any number of on-line hobby stores. Volley and Bayonet is a game system by Frank Chadwick, new available in a third edition. It is for the horse and musket period running roughly from 1700-1900. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/mcnelly/vnb.htm ![]() ![]() With all the plastic figures available today in 1/72nd virtually any army can be built 2-5 cents a figure in cost. A dozen to 15 figures per 3" square base represents a brigade of troops in a maneuver column for infantry. Four to six cavalry figures do the trick for horse brigades. Guns are individually mounted and represent a battery or section of guns. Regards, Scott

(and still am) My very first war game of any kind was Avalon Hill's Midway. I bought it as a Christmas present to myself at Stripling's Department Store in 1960. I was thirteen at the time. I eventually owned more than a dozen AH games. Regards, Scott

I used the little square cutouts and never got to use figures as I never had enough money to create a battle ground. Another interesting one I did was a war between the Soviets and the U.S. in Iran I think it was gsa there are many imaginary scenes out there now. Very cool setups you have there popeye! I am envious! This tank looks great! ![]()

These aren't all my set ups, I hasten to say. I do not have a digital camera so I am relying on photos off the web of other people's stuff. I had aq direct hand in the design of a cardstock 3D prohibition era city for Beer Wars, Cops and Robbers, Bonnie and Clyde, gangster skirmishes. http://fauxtoys.com/tvag/ You can check the stuff out there at Patrick Wilson's e-commerce store. There's a lot of Jules Verne style science fiction, colonial era gaming going on, to: Photos from http://zeitcom.com/majgen/index.html "Philosophy For the Ouargistan group, gaming is primarily a social activity, a chance to have a bit of frivolous fun in congenial company. There is no attempt to be rigidly historical. In the photos, you will see items from different periods of colonial history all used together -- red-coated British and khaki British, kilted highlanders and motorcars, Gatling guns and early aeroplanes. Our goal is a short vacation in a romantic fictional universe, half a world away and a century ago. Imagination and a sense of fun are what take us there; and if that means things get a bit silly at times, so much the better, as long as everyone has a good time and the sense of the general period is maintained." ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
