FAMILY That's one thing that i noticed about the filipinos is the bond between the family members is strong, many filipinos even when grown will live nearby family There is no divorce in the philippines it's against the law, the philippine govt sees that divorice is harmful to the families Many filipinos overseas send Balikbayan boxes to their loved ones in the philippines these boxes can be filled with canned food, computer parts, toys,things for the home, clothing, ETC... items that are hard to find in the philippines, these boxes are either shipped from the US or brought to the family in person when visiting the philippines, and in turn the family will sometimes send a box filled with things from the philippines, this is one way filipinos living overseas help their family. Another thing is respect which is is considered a must in filipino culture, many younger family members will ask for a blessing from the older memebers by bowing and taking the hand and putting it on their forehead, respect is taught to the kids who are expected to respect just not family, but in general everyone, filipinos use pakikisama which mean harmony in english and the words po and opo are common expressions of respect Hyia is shame in filipino that's the driving force behind the respect idea if a filipino shames themselfs they also shame their family no matter what the filipinos face they can always depend on their familes to help them and the fact that the national motto is "family first" and that family importance is taught at home and in the schools, these are things that filipinos don't forget Now many filipino familes are strict with their kids, but that strictness brings the best in the kids out, filipino kids are smart, respectful, well behaved, willing to learn new ideas and cultures, filipinos are hard and honest workers In the filipino culture the kids are taught, honesty, honor,loyalty, hard work, respect and to always put family first above all else, seems to have worked cause filipino families are strongly bonded together though good and bad times, if a family memeber is down on their luck the family will move in with them or have the family member or members move in with them till they can get back on their feet and Eye for an Eye is still used in the philippines, if someone kills or harms a memeber of a family , the dead person's family has the right to seek to redeem their honor in any way they see fit the common filipino family is strong in both faith and love, they stand together and face life's trials, they make sure that their kids are taught to work hard and respect those around them, many filipino kids go on to medical college and become midwifes,nurses and doctors, and the main thing the kids are taught is to be themselfs and be proud of their culture And seeing this first hand was amazing i saw how the filipino family structure was and kept intact no matter what lelen's sister remy has taught her kids the basic filipino family customs and to my total surprize her kids are smart, respectful and helpful and when they grow up they will have the basic ideas that their mom was taught by her mom,her kids used to call me kuya but i said for them to call me by my first name", remy knows that i dislike formal titles like uncle, but the kids call me still call uncle which i have gotten used to It makes remy smile each time i help the kids cause she knows that the kids are learning from me as i'm learning from them in all an even trade lelen is still watched over by her family even though she is grown and married that's how the filipino family is they watch after each other no matter what and seeing that the two sisters live brownwood and midland near enough to help their little sister if needed, and it took some time to understand the reasons behind their watchfulness of lelen, but i fully understand that after all they are her older sisters and they are making sure that lelen is doing fine i know that lelen isn't very keen on her sisters watching after her, and that has caused some minor problems between the sisters, but i know since they grew up together the bond between them is still strong and always will be one thing living in the philipines has taught me is that even though life is complex and stressful, never rush though things, work hard at what you do, be honest and loyal and most important remember that family is first no matter what Last edited on 10:14 pm by Prince colin |

Well back in 1995 I learned that rina had a nickname , Lelen is her nickname, why she has that nickname is beyond me according to her family and rina the dad started calling her that and the nickname stuck, now why he called her that will never be known he was killed in the line of duty in 1983 and it seems he never explained why he gave her that nickname to anyone Now the other 4 sisters don't have nicknames that i know of, it caught me off guard when i first heard lelen used to refer to Rina, but after i got used to hearing that nickname i started to use it a little ,and now i use it to refer to Rina as does her sisters and family it makes things a bit more personal calling her Lelen, and rina seems to like being called lelen Officially her name is Rina and that's how all the Official papers and stuff is signed, she uses Lelen only when she is writing to her family in the Philippines and responds when her sisters or me call her that Rina told me her nickname i told her that i knew of the nickname and thought it was unusual and very pretty that seemed to settle the matter of if i liked her nickname or not, I call her Princess Rina or Princess lelen either way she knows that i'm calling her I know that the nickname holds a very special meaning to rina and calling her that makes her happy that the nickname her dad gave her is still in use She is still Princess to me but i know that i can use her real name or her nickname and still get the same response Lelen is unusual for a nickname but somehow,someway it fits her, i guess the dad had his reasons for calling her Lelen and those reasons i'm not going to question nor try to figure out That's not my place to question her dad's reasons, my place is at her side

me and my sister agree on this, i've followed my heart and found more then i ever expected to, i found myself in the arms of a lady who was following her heart also It was so easy to just walk away from what our heart were telling us and go a another path, but something made us stop and look,there was nothing forcing us to choose, no papers, no deals, nothing was holding us back either, just two people choosing their own fate without anything to guide them It would of been easy to have something to help us in that choice but we had nothing just that we felt was right and our own hearts, the both families mainly kept out of the process and let us decide what we wanted,we choose to become a couple of our own free will which made her family pleased that we choose our own fates but by then our fates were already intertwined and we knew that the 5 yrs we waited to marry tested our love in many ways and we passed those test with flying colors which just proved to us that we were right in that our love was more then words and that our promise to each other would be completed, odd as it may sound many who know both of us personally have said that we are a perfect couple which i just laugh saying nothing is perfect in this world But they have a point we have lasted over 10 yrs which is unusual cause many had us pegged as failing in 3 to 5 yrs of marriage but again people have underestimated us and our love for each other we don't question the reasons we are together, that's not our place, call it fate, luck or whatever all we know is that we are together and to us that's all that matters we have been though hell and back and rina has never left my side, we are still best friends even though we are a married couple, it seems that our friendship is a great help it gives us common ground to stand on, it seems that being lovers/ best friends hasn't harmed our relationship at all just made it stronger as my sister said"brother you have made a choice that granny was proud of and knowing mom she'd be pleased also" she may have a point there i know granny was so damn proud of rina as a grand daughter, i knew that if she approved my mom would to we look towards the years together with a smile knowing that no matter what we will always be together in our hearts and minds

I used to not have a hell of a lot to believe in after my mom died, i had lost everything in just a few hours and felt like the world was mostly gone for me, i struggled to rebuild my life from the ashes and sometimes i wanted to give up and walk away from that idea but i had been taught never to quit, so i went on wondering where my life was going if anywhere and i believed that there was something out there for me i felt like i was going though hell but yet being a Dickerson you get used to the feeling That was one thing that amazed people who got to know me is my ideas and no matter what i faced i'd find time to help them, i faced my past and won cause i knew that the past could do more harm the good if not solved When i met Vicki in 1992 i was already well set in my life but was looking for more, and i knew that i would have to go though hell again to reach my dreams but had my mind set on those dreams no matter what i faced, that was one thing that impressed her was my mind set to succeed hell or high water When i went over by myself against the advice of Vicki and my family i knew that i had a choice in front of me, either i could run or stay and fight, i choose to say and fight Which amazed everyone cause the odds were so stacked against me in the first place I said"to hell with the odds, i'm going to reach my dream" and that was the point in my life when things started to look better, i had found something to believe in and it was myself and my ideas Rina had never had anyone really believe in her or her dreams and her family dismissed her ideas easy, but when we met , i started to believe in her and her ideas, she did wonderful in reaching her goals she suddenly had someone who backed her ideas and believed in her she understood that i saw more to her dreams and ideas, her family sat back and watched in amazement as she reached her dreams one after another I smiled and said" all she needed was someone to believe in her" they agreed that they never really thought of that, we both know that we found more then each other we found something to believe in our ideas, and with that we have overcome odds again and again it's not about religion it's the fact that two people found that believing in each other and each other's dreams and ideas can take them a long ways in this world People have said that i'm just like my mom never quit on anything They are right i'm just like her

well my parents were a high school science teacher and a doctor who treated cancer, i was raised around both medical and books, i still have some of my dad's old medical books and i have my mom's BA degree My dad was a very good doctor he treated people who had all sorts of cancer, he worked for a small town local hospital, he wasn't a great dad or a good husband but he tried He died in 1983 at the age of 39 very young he was killed when his jeep hit a unmarked bulldozer, my mom was forced to care for two kids on a teachers pay plus pay bills she worked her self almost to death to raise us kids and we think that is when she got cancer maybe in the late 1980's my mom She was so worried about us kids she never did look after herself and it caught up with her she died at 49 in 1992 leaving me on my own, not the best feeling watching your mom die and know you are basically f****ed I've never felt so damn low i knew i was in major trouble cause i really didn't like my situation and i was 17, i had to grow up when my dad died i was 8 when he died which was to make peace with my past and move on, i went to 5 school in my life, and finished the last one in 1994 then i moved out on my own to make it in the world i never did real good trying to make it on my own but i did what i had to, and it was never easy i worked part time and tried to rebuild my life at the same time i was with my uncle in 1992 living with him and my mom's sister and that when things hit me like a mac truck, all the bad luck, all the hell i faced as a kid had made me into a person with a bitter heart and i felt that life had kicked me in the nuts and laughed, so i used my upbringing to make myself better, granny saw me starting to be like her daughter, sharp witted, blunt honest and hit hard with facts and i was a family first person it made her proud that i could take after my mom in so many ways and i kept that promise to her that i'd never be bitter, she was pleased that i had buried my demons and moved on i was on my own when my uncle called me and said" come over so i did" and that's when my luck became good, but i wished i would of known that granny would die some years later, i regret not spending more time with her That's when i went over by myself and found more then true love i found who i was really a person who went though hell and back and almost let that destroy him, but i was luckier then most i found rina who gave me hope and hope was what i needed at that critical time in my life, she gave me a new outlook on life i know that i went though hell and i never quit i walked though hell and never looked back cause i knew that if i looked back i'd fail, so i just adjust my life to fit with rina's And we both know that we as people and as a couple have walked though hell and came out no worse for wear My sister told me over the phone that she was proud of me and that our parents would be pleased, i know that i had made granny pleased and i know that when we saw the last day of her life she was so happy for me and rina, i know that when she died her heart was filled with pride cause her daughter's son had reached beyond what people expected of him and made his own life i think if she had lived she would be proud of what i am and would of love rina for who she is as a person

Well for 15 yrs I've been a coin and note collector, and have found many unusual coins and notes, i started in the coin and note selling in 2003 and have done pretty well Now both my coin and note collection aren't high priced coins and notes, they are just coins and notes i have bought for one reason they were interesting, many are low value and that's not a matter to me at all, I'm just a collector/ Dealer all my coins are raw and unslabbed which i like better then slabbed and i have never sent any coin or note to a grading company, see no reason to waste my money on such minor things i don't play the metal market game that many collectors do and i don't buy anything off E-bay and i've seen threads over at the CU griping about Paypal and E-bay, then threads about someone getting ripped off from E-bay, i just shake my head Many collectors are flippers who buy a coin to make more money off the coin which isn't a bad idea you just have to know the coin and note market well Being a collector has given me a bit of a eye for unusual things, fossils are another aspect of my hobbies and i enjoy hunting for unusual fossils, coins or notes, and sometimes i just find the items without really looking so yeah being a collector does have +'s and -'s, but as with anything in life one must take a risk

I'm a history buff and enjoy history sometimes i find people who are totally clueless about coins, notes and fossils, they are called non collectors but i don't expect many to understand these areas cause to them they have no interest in those which is cool, but i do find that a few do share the same interest in coins, notes and fossils and can relate to me better then the non collectors being a collector has many +'s you can find a bit of history, either a fossil, coin, note ETC..., but what makes that area of history so interesting is the unknown, you never can tell what history lies behind a fossil, coin or note,things like that are interesting to many to a collector finding out that fossil, coin or note's history is fun and i have a nice collection of fossils,coins and notes, some have a interesting history behind them it's all about trying to piece together the history of a item, who, when and why who knows the next note,coin or fossil someone finds may be a important part of history, you never can tell what history lies behind an item i used to live in the country so i got to sharpen my fossil hunting skills, nowadays i can find fossils in some odd places cause nobody had ever thought to look in that area, the same with notes and coins i can find the unusual, interesting and odd coins and notes without even trying and I've been collecting since 1992 and have some idea of what to look for in notes and coins, I'm still learning which i like cause i can improve my skills in those areas and i have many people who know about coins and notes and do help me out hen i ask My wife's family will sometimes ask my opinion on coins and notes they have found or if the kids find a unusual rock they bring it to me even my family will ask my opinion on notes and coins they find,now i have many books on coins and notes to use in making a informed opinion about the coin or note And for fossils i use my magnifying glasses to see details and explain the best i can about the fossil, yeah it may seem odd to many that i can hunt for hour for fossils or spend time looking though my change for unusual coins, but it's something i do to relax and unwind

One thing i never thought of was fate, i had felt that it had run out for me and all i had was broken dreams to live by, , i went into my life with a heart of ice, not caring about a damn thing, but i realized that i had to reach my dreams and this wasn't working really good So i changed in mid stride and went after my own dreams, and said the hell with the world and their opinions, this is what i must do to become better people who knew me saw this change and were amazed that I'd take on such risks just to reach a dream, but i said" one way or another I'll find my dream and happiness, you can goto hell if you think otherwise" i left that for them to chew on, it didn't go down so easy for many who were critical of me, but to me my dreams were major important to reach I did things on my own with little or no help, i knew i had to prove myself able to people so i did, when they saw what i had become they hated it, cause i had showed them my true self, and that made them hate me more When i married rina my uncle called saying he was unhappy that i went though with the marriage, he got a dial tone as my reply he figured i didn't care about him or his small minded opinions and backed off, i was at last happy, i spent 5 yrs fighting for this moment and wasn't going to let some ass take the joy away After 11 yrs of marriage i have found there are those who will try and wipe out what they see as a threat to their egos, but as i said" opinions are good , but proof is much better" Now i deal with small minds a lot and take what they say with a grain of sand and i see the as people who never can find happiness or joy so they try and attack those who have it always expect the unexpected is my motto and it works in the world cause you never know what can happen i know that and always stand ready

One thing about me is that i was taught to handle situations as i saw fit to, and yes sometimes i find myself over my head in some situations, someone asked me once what could go wrong in a situation, i said" lots of things at once", personally I've been in some situations that no amount of planning would of helped and i just took the best idea i had at the time and went with it my sister said that I've got a talent for finding trouble, i told her that things just happen and I've not planned on that, she said that i also have a talent for getting out of situations easy, i laughed and said" yeah that i do but still I've not done too bad for someone who walks into situations and finds rewards where many think there are none to be found Rina hates that i don't plan, i told her that i never was a planner i just let things happen and handle the after effects, her sisters call me careless and i said" maybe but for someone who is careless I've done pretty damn good" they agree that I've done well despite the fact that i had no plan for my life what so ever and that's true i never planned my life out, never saw the need to but seems not to have hurt my life one bit,and things just go as usual, rina is the planner and that's cool with me and she can't help but smile when i find myself in a situation where she knows i'll win no matter what but as i see my life planning never got me much and not planning has

One thing that makes people wonder is how the hell did i manage to go to a another country without any idea of what to expect and go though more hell then most and still come back in one piece All i did as just do what i thought was needed and went with that idea, i had nothing to back my ass up with when i was over in the philippines, i was on my own not that i was amazed i 'm used to going at things on my own then within a few days rina started to support my ideas and i returned the favor by helping her and i found that having someone to back you up was more helpful then going at it alone, we made a promise to back each other up no matter what amazing thing is that she knows i can do things on my own and be fine but she would rather be by my side helping, and i have accepted that, i've battled her family before over some things i saw wrong and won, her sisters have come to understand that if i see something wrong i'll say something my family is now given up on attacking us i've shown facts and fired those facts point blank in their face and not cared what they did cause i had facts backing myself up with and they just had opinions One thing i've earned in this day and age facts speak louder then opinions and that's how i like things

well one thing i do is research on things, and if i can't find the answer i ask a lot of questions that way it helps me figure out what to do or how to respond, it may seem to be a lot of trouble to do research but it pays off in the long run i was taught to look at things on a deeper level and to find out what i can about whatever I'm interested in, yeah I'll admit that sometimes i need a bit more help on things But when i do something I've thought out the idea, seen what could go wrong and made damn sure the odds were in my favor, which isn't making me too popular with some cause with research i have facts that i can use to make my point i just love people who attack blindly hoping to hit something, but as usual i fire back with facts of the matter and then dare those who question the facts to prove their facts, never has happened cause they can't and even i know it my sister said that i let those who want to be fools fire first then i hit them hard with facts and watch as they try to recover, then more facts are fired, and i still wait for them to try and prove their position , but by then it's too late cause the facts outweigh opinions by a long shot research is key to understanding the world around you and it does tend to make one see things in a clear unclouded way always approach your research with a open mind and that way your personal feelings will not get in the way an you can see the facts of whatever you are researching Just something I've learned and still use today in my life
