Here is a link to a thread I started here about Trixie, my chinchilla. I have pictures there.
Basically she is a poofy little furball. She is a member of the rodent family and her shape, under the poof is much like a squirrel. Her front paws, as you see in one pic, are able to hold on to things. Her back feet are similar to that of a rabbit. This allows her to run, hop and jump. She has a long bushy tail, like a squirrel.
She is a primo escape artist..can even crawl under the doors in our house..so I have had to put braces at the bottom of the doors in the room she runs in, so she cannot crawl under.

She is nocturnal, there fore sleeps all day. Chins do not sweat, like humans, or some animals (think a dog panting) so it is important her environment, especially in the summer is kept cool.

So, that is the nutshell version. Feel free to ask other questions.

Right, JBF. I similarities to many rodent type critters in Trixie.

She has a rather long life span for a critter....10+ years. I am not sure about other rodents..how they compare.

She is a cutie, and I will be putting more pictures here and in TK's forum. So keep your eyes open for them.
