Watching my chinchilla eat can be a very amusing experience.  One of her staples which we always keep in her cage is hay.  I cut it into small pieces, easy for her to hang onto, and a bit less messy, as we put them in a  food bowl in her cage.  So, can she just sit there by the bowl and eat?  No.  She has to get right in the bowl and sit there and eat.

And as we know, what goes in must come out...so it just means I have to actually refresh the hay in the bowl more often.

Oh, she is funny.  It is cute when we give her a treat. She will grab it from us, then run off to the furthest corner of her cage to eat it..especially if it is a favorite treat.  Does she think we are going to take it back?  Her favorite treat now is dried banana chips.  She could eat them all day if we let her.

Here is a picture of her eating her hay..from before we got the bowl.  That hay rack was a disaster..mots landed on the floor outside her cage.

Yes, TK, I love the way she can hold onto her food.  You cannot tell in this picture, but her back feet are long and narrow, like a rabbit.  So she can, and does, hop sometimes.
