We (Sevenna and I) are now the proud owner of......(count em) FIVE hamsters. The latests edition are two male russian dwarf campbell hamsters, Sevenna has named them Nish and Fabe (for reasons that are too complicated to go into here !). please don't take offense to this... but what is the fascination with hamster/gerbils? i get dogs. i get cats. don't understand hamsters.

Hey, they are great for kids...most are not allergy producing. I had a guinea pig a couple of years back, and may get more. They are cool. A GP makes a cuddly little lap pet. Of course my chinchilla can be hell on wheels when she wants to be.

ninja they are adorable~ good luck with them. Sorry folks, the anti hamster jokes here gotta go. I don't want to see them again. ALL animals should be respected. You dont' see me touting how I would love to make a nice pair of boots out of the snake do you? Marie, hamsters are totally hypoallergenic. Any allergies related to them are usually due to the bedding. PLEASE always use a paper based bedding such as Care Fresh for hamsters. Anything that is full of that pine scent will cause them respiratory problems. I just buried the last of my 9 Campbells' Russian Dwarfs and I miss having them around. They are darling. They never bit me and cleaning the cage is no worse than housebreaking a puppy or cleaning a litterbox. Dwarf hamsters are not as cuddly as their larger cousin the Syrian hamster, but are fun and kind none the less. FYI there are no such things as Teddy Bear, Panda, Black Bear, Leopard, hamsters. Those are simply COLORS of hamsters and a stupid gimmick by shady pet shops to sell them. They are SYRIAN hamsters. 99% of the time people get bit by their hamster is they do not respect the animals 'home'. Hamsters do NOT like a big giant hand reaching in and grabbing it. Think about this, wouldn't you bite something that big and frightening coming at you? ALL my hamsters were happy to simply climb onto my open hand outside the cage door. I have LOTS and LOTS of information on hamsters on TK Pet Pros if anyone wants more information of these lovely little gifts from God. I realize not everyone likes every kind of animal, but I don't want to hear anyone making stupid jokes like feeding them to snakes or saying they are stupid and not fun like dogs or cats. This goes for ANY species of rodent. This forum is NOT for that. Ninja, you are welcome to join TK Pet Pros forums and not get poked fun at if you choose to keep hamsters.

Reptile owners fed their pets rodents, that is a fact and is essential for the welfare of that reptile. UTR wasn't being "anti-hamster" she was jabbing my funny bone. I appreciate your forum is dedicated to the welfare of all animals of course and I respect that. I wasn't offended at all, (me and UTR like to rib each other, its cool !) animals have a tendency to eat each other (a housefly or other insect goes anywhere near my hamsters cages and its lunch !) that is the natural order of things, pets included. Thanks for the link to the pet forums though Kitten they look very cool and I will continue to keep this forum up to date with the progress of my hamsters (4 boys, one girl, all the syrians keep in their own big cages, the two little russian brothers sharing !)

I totally understand she was joking and that snakes eat rodents. I am fully aware of how the food chain works. But I didn't like the joke. People are STUPID and I can tell you that some dumb-arse passing by never logged in and reads such stuff can and will and does get ideas from innocent made jokes. I've been in the animal 'business' far too long and have seen many forms of cruelty of ALL kinds of animals as well as UTR has.
