A few years ago, a policeman brought his police dog into our office while giving crime details, the dog (a large german shepherd) was fine off the lead, but then he thought it would be clever to put the dog on the lead at which point the dog went freaking beserk. He thought it was very amusing until it grabbed a colleague of mine by the ankle, he didn't think that was very amusing as he saw his career flash before his eyes, he also didn't think is was very amusing when I hit the dog on the back with a metal chair to get it to let go.  He was "required" to resign a few weeks later,  prick !

These dogs go nuts on a leash like that because they are TRAINED to do so. They are POLICE dogs, not someone's pet.

they have specialized training for fighting and SUBDUING CRIMINALS.

You gave a perfect examplet there Ninja, of someone - a HUMAN behaving irresponsibly with his specialized dog in a situation where he should have KNOWN BETTER.

CAN'T blame the dog here one bit!

A few years ago we thought a lobotomy was a practical and humane way to "fix" issues with people.  I find it unfortunate that we don't still apply it to some.

LOL!!!I second that ::chuckle::

Well, jrstattoo, (that's a long name to type out in it's entirety) I guess we will soon hear of people screaming to ban pet birds.  I mean, you have now publicly admitted that they do bite.  Better find somewhere safe to hide from it.

Thanks for slapping me in my face in my own forum. Saint, you broke my rules about name calling.

Feel like coming back and explaining yourself?

I'm sorry you feel that people like me are self centered, foolish cretins who want to own something for the sole intent to maim and injure.

I DARE you to come to my house and meet my dogs. I DARE you to get an unbiased education on these wonderful, loyal, couragous creatures.

I never said they are pussycats (oh and ever been bitten by a cat?) nor have I said these bully breeds (and there are MANY) are for everyone but your comments are over the line buddy.

That's a keyboard commando for ya.  People find they have all KINDS of guts and nerve and false bravado behind the safety of a monitor.  Put 'em up close and in person, and they fold like a house of cards.  Poser, coward, spineless....pick your label.  They all fit.

Sorry, off topic.

Absolutely.  I was just thinking inparticular that pit bulls seem to be the dog of choice for the gangsters and meth dealers in my town. Just a coincidence?  Not bloody likely.  They pick that breed for exactly the reason I'm against it.

So you mean that I should be punished by not allowing these dogs because others are awful scum? I should be made to suffer, give up my dog because the actions of others need to cause banning and I will be lumped in with this just because I have one of these dogs.

I become guilty by association. I thought America got past that long ago.

I take that comment personally, Saint. Sorry, you come off only answering those here that agree with you and ignore facts. You would rather harp on the hysterical.

What do you think the thugs in your town who have these dogs would do if there were no more pit bulls? I'll tell you. They will find an equally aggressive and dangerous breed.

Hmm maybe the Rhodesian Ridgeback? That's a good one, they LOOK like nice little doggies but they were bred to hunt and take down lions. Once someone gets wind of that they'll be all kinds of popular.

Your banning solution does NOTHING to avert the problem and this is what you fail to see. You fail to see the BIG PICTURE.

As for the crap you live among in your town, well surround yourself with horror and you lose sight of the nice things in life.

Get out of town once in awhile, smell some flowers, pet a well trained dog. It may do you some good.

What....that doesn't make sense to you, TK?  Some of one breed of dog attack due to human error and ignorance, and that naturally means, the solution is to get rid of ALL those dogs.

Sorry, you come off only answering those here that agree with you and ignore facts.

Standard MO for those who would rather quiver in fear pissing down their own leg than learn something.

TK, you'll never get a straight answer.  "People" like that will either backpedal, as we have already seen, or try to justify their stupidity in further stupidity, or they will simply lie.  I suspect the latter will be the likely response.

Dogs just don't snap for no reason. They just don't. Someone somewhere did something to not give the dog all of the above.

Top it off, something triggers 99% of these attacks. No one ever goes to the trouble to find out what it is. Why? because it's a pit bull  so it has to be the dogs fault 100%. More sensationalism for the story.

I shouldn't have to suffer because the ignorant are out there doing stupid stuff.

So it's the old lady's fault for walking her dogs on a public sidewalk?  She has no right to do that?  The pit bull's "territory" includes the public sidewalk?

Forgive me please, but this is an extremely ignorant point of view.  In fact, it's not ignorant but closer to disingenious or deceiptful.

I'm not claiming that your dogs are bad, or that you should be personally punished for the misdeeds of all the other dogs or their owners, but in the case that Saint brought up, and in so many others, either the dog must be destroyed, and/or the human owner must be tried in court for manslaughter or attempted manslaughter, and relieved of every material possession that they have.  And that won't even begin to compensate for the loss of life suffered by innocent citizens and their innocent pets. How long must this go on?
