If your time, money and space were no object, what breeds of dogs would you own?  I like mutts best, since they seem to retain the best attributes of all the breeds they come from, but for purebred dogs, I do have a few favorites.  My first choice is a bull terrier.  I love the look of them, for one thing.  Although we know that choosing a dog based solely on what it looks like is a BIG HUGE mistake!!  There is much more to consider in a pet than what it looks like.  But this is one cool dog!

My next favorite would be an Irish Wolfhound.  The tallest breed out there, and so loveable and sweet.  Big shaggy bundle of slobbery love!!

And another beautiful breed is the Bernese Mountain Dog.  I have only seen these in dog shows, unfortunately.  I've never seen one as someone's pet, and I know less about this breed than the others, but they are just a gorgeous animal.

So how 'bout you?  What are some of your favorite breeds?

I have had good experiences with Golden Retrievers and Black Labs.  May consider one of those.

I had a scottipoo that we lost in 2002 when he was 17, but he was a great mutt, and I wasn't allergic to the fur.

I've seen another nice breed, originally from Cuba, called a Javanese.  They are a small breed too, but have a very happy personality and are also hyperallergenic and get along well with everyone.

I've always loved "big" dogs because of their sweet personalities.  Newfoundlanders, St Barnard's, German Shepard's and good old mutts.  Then we got the little Shih Tzu's, and their every bit as loving, and sweet as the big ones!  So I'd say ALL of the above!

My first love is terriers of all sorts but I really, really, really want a french bulldog. I want one I can show and  love at the same time. They are the most adorable combact bundles of fun and you gotta love those bat ears!

UTR, I've had the pleasure of handling a couple Burmese Mountain dogs! They are just what they look like! Big loveable teddybears! Very nice dogs but like many of the winter climate dogs, I notice people who live in climates like Florida are the ones who have them! Careful when choosing your dog. If you live in a state where the weather is too warm, you will not get the most out of your pet! You should always consider climate and breed together.

Next on my list are the sighthounds. I have shown a few of them including the Borzoi, Rhodesian Ridgeback (who doesn't love a dog that takes down lions?) the greyhound and the Ibizan hound.

I have had Borzoi and greyhound myself and have shown my own dogs as well as for others.

And of course you all know how I feel about pit bulls!

The bull terrier that UTR mentions is a wonderful dog as well and I always wanted one of those.

Another dog I have my sights on is the American Bulldog. These are big powerful dogs that are now used to hunt bear. Another breed like the pit bull that takes a special person to handle. Oh and I should mention that any sighthound is not for everyone as well.

There was the cutest little French bulldog on the Eukanuba Dog Show that was aired again on tv last week.  He didn't win first place, but to me, he should have!

what TK said about considering the climate and how it suits the breed is so true. i see people down here with samoyeds and malamutes for example, and i know they are suffering in the heat.

The closest we ever got to getting a little fluffy bundle of joy was a snow white Cockapoo, similar to the one below! It was the cutiest thing ever, it actually resembled a little lamb! Unfortunately, the deal fell through, & as it turned out, we never followed up on looking for another.

Sadly, now our lifestyle doesn't mesh with having any type animal!

Well you know what one I'll say!!

I used to have a friend who would say "Any dog ya can drop kick ain't

worth havin'" and I for a long time only liked the bigger guys... but then

a few years back I met this little doxie Abbey. She walked with her

owner on the path where I do, and every time she saw me, no matter

from how far away, she'd RACE to where I was, her little tail going around

in circles like a helicopter rotor. She melted my heart.

Pounds are the best way to go, in my opinion.  The heck with AKC papers and bloodlines.  If you're just after a great pet, get a mutt from the pound who would probably be put down if someone didn't take it.

This is a Borzoi.  My niece used to own one.  They are cool.  Her dog used to greet you by standing up, putting her front paws on your shoulder and licking your nose..or just putting her muzzle on your shoulder.
