This was not a one-time occurance but something my Beagle-mix used to do on a regular basis...

My beagle hated the rain.  When it heard drops hitting the windows, it would start to shake violently.

When it started to thunder, it would crawl over to the area where we kept our pots and pans, under the stove, and somehow manage to open the cabinet door.

Once it found out how to do this, it would climb onto the 2nd level of pots and pans, crawl over them, and then lay on top of a mass of jagged metal.  Ouch...

What's even crazier is that it would do this without opening the cabinet door all the way.  So he would get in there as the door shut behind him...thus, when I or a family member walked into the kitchen, we could not see the dog had gone back there.  So we would be walking around the house, calling its name until we realized that it had gone into its "bomb shelter" to take cover from the rain.

Now is that a strange dog or what...

Oh my.  Several years ago, I was doing companion care for a nice elderly lady. I stayed with her while her daughter was at work.  They had a Golden retriver named Henry.  One day there was a rain storm brewing.  About 10 minutes before the rain hit, Henry started whining and jumped into my lap.  He was shaking all over.  The lady said Henry hated storm and to put him in the mud room, with no windows.  Kept him there till storm passed.  Let him out after and he was fine.

A more personal story.  I used to have a guinea pig named Scooter.  One day I was off work, and there was a thunderstorm. I was in my office, working on compter.  A very heavy rain storm hit, no thunder and lightening, just heavy rain.  I could hear Scooter scuttling about in his cage.  He had an igloo, hidey hut.  When I came out to see what he was doing, I saw a pile of hay and bedding in front of the door to the igloo.  His food dish was pushed closer to it, and a little stuffed toy he had, was inside the igloo with him.  When I called his name, I just saw his eyes over top of everything, and a look that seemed to sat "What?"

I had a cat once that could do all kinds of funny things. We had doors that had handles on them, not knobs. The cat would jump up, grab ahold of the handle and pull the door open by pushing on the wall with it's back legs.

One day this same cat got inside the kitchen island and somehow got herself flat enough to get into the silverware drawer. We kept looking for her, she was meowing but not like she was scared or anything. We never thought to look in the drawer, there was probably only 2 inches beyween the drawer and the top of the island. We couldn't get her out so we figured we would just let her get herself out the same way she got in.

We also had 2 great danes at one time that would get into my bed with me whenever it would start to storm at night. Probably something most dogs do, but 2 great danes and me in a single size bed would probably have been a good pic. these dogs were 6 feet tall when on thier hind legs. The bigger they are, the bigger the baby...lol.
