Ah the pet section. I know squat about business....the only thing I do know is you need money to make money and I ain't got no money! But pets....that my friends is my forte! Yes indeed. I have worked professionally and non-professionally with animals for close to 30 years now and am working on a totally comprehensive pet website and forum with hopes to get it launched by mid October. A much bigger undertaking than I imagined I assure you! But in the meantime, I enjoy spreading what I know to those who seek help with their critters. If I can't personally help you, I know someone who can. Cats are good for the soul.

Hi Kitten........don't know if you saw my post in the other thread or not, but I have a website about my aviary and there is also a section for my furry four-legged friends. There is a lot of information there about care of parrots that may be useful to you.

Yes I did. I'll check it again. Would you be interested in being one of our Pet Pros on the forum for birds? I desperately need bird mods for the forum launch in Oct! I only need mods to be able to check in and spend an hour a day there to make sure morons are not giving out idiotic advice and not telling people to self vet the animals. Of course an hour a day won't be necessary at the beginning, but I gave a generous time span so if it does get busy, no one is surprised. My hope is to have 3 mods from different time zones for each animal forum to spread the load.

I..... Have a Ball Pithon. I'd love to have another Cat, but my Daughters are allergic to them. :o( *sniff* I will however, when I get a big enough yard, get some puppys! I'm still deciding on the breed, but my Young lady wants a Boxer. Meh, as long as It's intelligent, I'm game.

Ender I'm allergic to ALL my animals...my secret....allergy immunozation shots. Yep I get poked twice a week and I cannot tell you how grateful I am that someone discoverd this 'cure' for allergies! I suffer terribly to the point I can't breathe! You should look into it for your girls. Every child should have a pet of whatever species they want. There is no reason in this day and age of modern medicine your girls cant' enjoy having a cat.

Well, as an adult, I would even go for that. But... I really hate seeing my girls in pain, so for now I'll hold off. When They are old enough to know what all goes into immunozation for this sort of thing, I'll let them decide. It is a great thing though, and yes every child should be able to have any pet that they want. I think I'll have a discussion about this with my oldest (4) this weekend. Thanx!!

Yeah, I agree that shots are great for adults, but they can be pretty traumatic for a youngster. Best to wait until they are older and let them decide, cause I don't think they'd like the kitty so much if it meant two shots a week.  I thank God I'm not allergic to anything (and I've had pretty much every kind of pet you can think of). I'm sure I'd be getting the shots if I developed any, cause the critters are staying!

I would consider it for my kid if they were NUTS about having a particular kind of pet and it was a once a year shot or something that my research proved was harmelss. Other than that, I'd start playing them dog dvds to brainwash them!

Of course you need to make the decision based on your own children, but since I don't have any kids, all I have to input here is that there are more children of all ages in my allergists office than adults each day! Also, the needles are tiny, smaller than diabetic needles. They use the TB needles. I am the unusual case that needs 2 shots a week. EVERYONE else gets one! So if that's any consolation/help talking to your kids, good. I blame it on the Republik! I didn't have such allergies even to animals until I moved out of the City to here. My other half never had a single allergy 'till he moved from MI to here. Jersey sucks.

Allergies suck period. Any way you can keep yourself from being miserable, I say go for it. I'm sure my kiddoes will say the same.

The week after I had a 'Prick Test' (and I'm a girl!) and was told am allergic to cat fur, rabbit foru, dust mite and grass pollen, I figured that was an impossible life to live avoiding them (being a farmer's wife at the time), I said sod it and bought myself another horse. So I sneeze and go far too much, and during haymaking season I was not having much fun at all, but taking drugs for it. I gave them up after 6 months and just hardened decided to pretend it was not happening. Eventually (10 years later... and surrounded by animals, I am still managing - some days worse than others, but hey...it's better than what some people have to suffer with other hassles) What I am trying to say is, I think if you dive headlong in, you can actually immunize some of your problems yourself.
