Ah you must convince her that both can live in harmony! I've got 5 cats and two dogs. You all remember my big, bad, vicious, attack without warning and go on a killing rampage because they are pit bulls? The cats beat the tar out of them on a daily basis. None of the dogs snap back at them for it either. Why don't they attack back? Becaue a) they know cats are smarter and deserve respect and b) because I am more feared than the cats. Your cats are lovely btw.

Couldn't agree with you more, TK. When Monster came home with me from the clinic, he was introduced to a dog (Bogey) who weighed 85 pounds. Monster showed Bogey immediately that HE is the boss, and Bogey never challenged that. Like your pets, TK, I was alpha and all the animals in my house knew it. They played, sometimes rough, but no one was ever injured. And I didn't and would never declaw a cat I own, so it's not like Monster was without his defense weapons!

Good morning TK and UTR , I have had both dogs and cats at the same time in the past . And I also witnessed the way the cat can teach the dog some real quick lessons . However I just cant give another pet the time and attention it needs . Ever since my wife has become disabled my free time has cut way back . So I will stick with the 2 fur kids we have now . They are great companionship for my wife and I . In fact the one I rescued for her at Christmas [ Skipper , the dark gray one] has become a real lovey dovey cat . He loves to stand up on your lap and hug and rub against you . And he loves to be petted . So that works out great as the wife is watching tv . She can just sit there and pet him for hours . Take care , JB . Attachment: (Downloaded times)

Back around 1979, I worked at a poultry by-products plant in Garden City, Alabama. We lovingly refered to the place as the "Gut Factory". They would bring in all the chicken parts that were thrown away at the Poultry Processing plants, the heads, legs, intestines, and any parts that didn't pass inspection, along with the feathers. We would cook this down, keeping the feathers seperated from the rest, and press the grease out and send it through a hammer mill where it would be turned into a fine powder. The same was done to the feathers (the features are 100% protein). We also did the same with the egg shells from the hatcheries, for the calcium. All of this was used as the base product for most animal foods, including cat, dog, chicken, cattle, and any other animal foods that used it as the base. We also processed large catfish and other species for the fish oils and the meat. Just thought I'd pass that along.

yeah, all the more reason to be really picky about what your animal eats. I have never seen ANY cat I've owned go and eat egg shells or feathers on anything they've hunted and killed. They eat the guts, and brains but leave the outside more often than not. Forcing them to eat the feathers although some can see it as using every bit of the animal we kill and not wasting any, is just not right IMO. If an animal were to eat those things we force them to by clever disguise on their own then I'd have no problem. Dogs can and will eat rotting carrion but cats do NOT eat rotting food. Things that don't pass inspection dont pass for a reason and sometimes our animals that don't want to eat the processed foods we feed are actually giving us a big clue! As I've become more aware of many of the things that go into animal food, the more picky I become. Mind you, my animals are not spoiled brats but are treated according to the species they are with the best possible care I can give them. But as the world grows, things change and not always for the better. JMO
