So I got called into work tonight.  (That story will be told in the other thread I have going about the idiot who got hired.)

About halfway into my shift, (it was crazy busy) a man walked in and handed me a towel.  As he walked away, he said, "It was on my driveway" or something to that effect.  I opened the towel to find a tiny kitten.  Then I hauled ass out of the clinic.  If a stray cat is brought in and it has feline leukemia, whoever brought it in just contaminated the whole hospital.

So I ran out the door and hollered for the first co-worker I saw to get another tech and get her butt outside with me, and bring a syringe to draw some blood.  When I got a closer look at the tiny thing, it was fur, and bones.  It was also cold to the touch.  I tapped lightly near the corner of its eye and got some reaction, which encouraged me.  I started breathing warm air onto the kitten's body while keeping the towel wrapped around it.  I got a teeny, tiny mew and was even more encouraged.

A tech came out and we had a hell of a time getting blood from its tiny little veins, but we managed.  For the next 10 minutes I was in a cold sweat.  If this kitty had feleuk, it would be my fanny, my fault or not.  I was incredibly releived when the test came back negative.  We got the little guy into a heated cage and he perked up a bit.  Then we got some food into him and he perked up a bit more.  By the time I left, he was looking much better and Doc said it looks like we have a 4th hospital cat!!  I'm so happy this furkid got rescued and has probably found a home with us at the hospital.  I'll keep you updated here.

Good point, Sis.  I don't know if he'd have taken a very appealing picture, but I will take a snap of him tomorrow anyway.  I could feel every little rib, each vertebrae, the joints in his widdle ankles and everything.  He was a mess.  He might have weighed 4 ounces.  Maybe I will name him Quarter Pounder!

I'll get some snaps of him.  Promise!!  ::saluter::

Yet another reason I could not work in a clinic or shelter..I would want to take them all home.

Good work on your part, UTR.  I can see you are becomming an asset to the place.

I know; I want to take them all home too.  But whether you could have another cat is a moot point now.  The poor little kid passed away last night.  As it was a stray, Doc won't be doing a necropsy to find cause of death.

But at least his last hours were in warmth and with food in his belly, near people who loved him.

That blows UTR. I'm so sorry to read this. But as you said, he knew compassion in the end. Poor kitten.
