I keep seeing this commercial for a gizmo called "Peticure" which is a new system for trimming the nails of your pets. Instead of clippers which can crush the nail and shouldn't be used if you don't know what you're doing, this instrument basically shaves small increments of nail away. I still think you could hit the quick if you're not careful, but this seems like a good way to do this; especially for pet owners who are nervous about having to do it, or don't like paying the vet to do it. TK or SP; have either of you seen this thing yet? And if you have, what do you think of it? Obviously, I have no need for one. Snakes don't have nails to trim!

I saw it and was wondering about it myself. To me, it looks rather large. I'd be concerned the sight of it, or the sound would frighten the animal.

I should have thought of a link to include from the get-go. I don't know if it is motorized or what, so I don't know about any sound it might make. Peticure dog grooming supplies, dog nail clippers, dog nail care ...

I've seen the video, haven't tried them or know any one who has. I use the older-fashioned "guillotine" trimmers, but I'm seriously thinking of trying the Dremel tool idea. We already have a Dremel so it wouldn't involve any cost. Having dogs with black nails and not being able to see the quick is a royal pain. I think I only "quicked" Tamsen twice, neither time very badly, but Sierra I've come pretty close a number of times, and therefore find myself not trimming them back as much. She's good about getting them done, though, so I think trying the Dremel might work with her.

Well it's pretty new, so there probably isn't a lot of feedback about this thing yet. Wolf is considering one, also, and if I hear good things about it, I think I will get one to help Sis trim her cat's nails. She can do it, but I think this could make it really simple for her. The black nails are a nightmare, aren't they? I've done thousands of nail trims and am comfortable with the guillotine chompers, but if there is a tool that can work better, do a better job, I'm all for it. If you get one, you'll tell us what you think, SP?

It's crap. It's big and bulky and you can't see what you're doing. I use the scissor type nippers and the Dremel tool. That gadget from the TV is based on the same idea as the Dremel but it's a one piece unit with that stupid thing to catch the mess from the nail dust that gets created. What they don't tell you is that whether you use the Dremel or the gadget, the friction from the rotating wheel creates heat in the animal's nail. They feel it. The Dremel is safer. You get an attachment with it where the rotating tool is at the end of a long wire instead of at the end of the motorized unit. I use the sandpaper wheels. Grinding stones are too rough even for my dog's bear claws. Dogs seem to like the motorized tool better than the clippers. But like I said, I use both. I lop of the excess and then fine tune and take off the sharp edges with the Dremel. You REALLY need to be careful if you're going to use any kind of motorized tool with long haired animals. TV gadget or Dremel, the hair CAN get wrapped in the spinning wheel and cause great damage and pain. Then you'll have a dog who refuses to let you near it's feet at all. Notice you dont' see them giving this trimming treatment to cats? I wonder how many cat bites the inventor suffered trying it out!
