Well, I took Toby to the vet for what I hoped was a dental problem, maybe an abcessed tooth.  Turned out to be cancer (probably an osteocarsomis) and had spread to his bone.  I am devasted.......I had no idea how fast they spread and they said his time was limited and would be painful.

I had to make a decision today I wasn't prepared to make.   He was only 9 years old.  I miss him terribly and I know Skipper and Squirt will to.

If you wish to take place in the cancle ceremony please go to

The ceremony is at 9:00 p.m  CST and you can also pay tribute to your own furbabies who have gone on to the Rainbow Bridge.

Hi Cherwood,  You are in my prayers. Back in August my wife and I had to make the same decision with one of our dogs (princess, St. Bernard), she was 14, but she still had a lot of life in her. I won't go any further, it still fills my heart with pain and my eyes fill up to think about her. Anyway this is not about me, it is about you and Toby. I don't know where you stand on the subject of life after this earthly life, but I have listed 2 links below. The first link is one I received from a friend after we said good-bye to Princess and the second link is Biblical proof that Toby will be waiting for you with open paws.

I am so sad to hear of your loss.  It's a very difficult decision to make.  I've had to make this decision many times.  Just know that you and Toby are in my prayers.  God Bless

I'm so sorry to read this Cherwood. Like so many others here, this decision is one I've had to make too many times as well.

It never gets any easier and the pain of losing your friend never lessens. But it is nice to know you are not alone.

Thanks everyone.  I appreciate your comments.  Although this is certainly not the first time I've had to make this decision, the others were with elderly pets, that had lived a very long life.  Toby was only 9 yrs old and I wasn't expecting to lose him so soon.

I think Skipper and Squirt have just begun to realize he isn't coming back and they seem sad........even my cat seems sad.

I sorry for your loss. I know you must be brokenhearted. Losing an animal companion is awful.

Oh no.  Not you too.  I do know how you feel.  The grief never mends, but maybe that's a good thing.  It keeps them in your memories.  The decision though, is the hardest, no?
