I have to take my kitty in tomorrow to have him euthanized.  I know I'm doing the right thing, but it feels awful!

madeddie -

A normal cat's lifetime is aroud 13 to 15 years. Your poor kitty is incredibly old now. Every day is nothing but pain. The body's systems and organs are shutting down by now.

Your kitty is tired of living and does not want the pain to go on.

I am terribly sorry for you. I had to do the same thing for my last kitty about seven years ago. This will be one of the hardest things you've ever done, but it is time now to let her go.

A few things to help you through the process:

1. Although is is more difficult at the time to actually be with your kitty when he goes on, in the long run you will feel better about it. There is an injection and the drugs work so fast (microseconds) that he will not feel a thing. You also need to bring a blanket and a basket for your kitty.

2. You should make preparations to lay your kitty to rest by yourself. Do not leave it to the vet. They are not unkind, but they will not give your poor kitty's body the respect and dignity he deserves. They just don't have time.

If you have a yard, you are allowed to bury her there. You can make a fitting memorial for him.

Last but not at all the least.

After he is gone, you will feel very much down for a while. After you feel better, I suggest getting a new kitten. You may feel now that no one can take the place of your kitty, but believe me,

the best solace for a broken heart is a new love.

Again, my heart goes out to you, but it is time to end his pain and set him free.

I'm so sorry to hear that.  The only thing that gets me through the death of a pet is thinking of the possibility that they'll be waiting for me when I die.

Best wishes and a big hug.::grhug::

I too have been down this path too many time to want to remember.

I know your pain and the only advice I can offer is to follow Saint's words of wisdom as I feel exactly the same way.

Just know that your old friend will now be out of any pain and the best part is where he goes, he gets his youthful body back and will always be with you (don't let anyone tell you different!)in spirit.

So sorry to hear about your kitty.  I've been there many times and it's a very difficult decision to have to make.

I'm also very sorry to hear about your kitty.  I can empathize because we had to euthanize my dog a couple of years ago (he was 17) and I went through this with other pets over the years.
