It is not about Sparky, the little lhasapoo puppy I brought home 4 days ago. It's about me, and how this cute little bugger is the equivalent of a $650 nervous breakdown. I haven't had a puppy since I was a little kid, and this little feller is high maintenance! We're getting used to each other though.

Cute dog Guy.

He reminds me of my dog, Champ. Champ was a poodle/terrier mix-and my housemate in gradschool, a 6-3 former hockey player (now a cardiothoracic surgeon) was initially slow to embrace Champ, perhaps thinking that he was a wimpy little dog-Champ weighed maybe 12 lbs. Next door lived a big, mutant, golden retriever mix (usually goldens have good dog disposistions-Jesse was a definite exception). Anyway, one night when Scott came home, Jesse was out barking agressively at Scott (in our front yard). Champ, 1/4 or less of Jesse's size, rushed up, barked at Jesse, and Jesse ran off.
Scott was a big fan of Champ from that day forward.

Champ was high energy, and high loyalty. We got him as a tiny puppy-I remember my mother literally feeding him pablum-when I was 12. He lived long enough to live on multiple continents, and to go into lab with me on weekends when I was in grad school. It was a sad day when I peddled to the vet with his unconscious body cradled under my arm, tears streaming down my face. He outlived both of my parents, and my innocence ;)

I'll have to dig one up, and scan it. Its been almost 20 years.
This is Joe, the wonder dog. He's not tough at all, in some ways but he can literally cover 19 miles at a trot and then fetch repeatedly in the ocean.
