I'm watching a program about this group in Mass. who go around to "kill" shelters and adopt all kinds of "problem" dogs and train them for service dogs, K-9's, bomb-sniffers and all kinds of other jobs.  This was an excellent program, and I'm just waiting for the end of it to find out how to buy the DVD.  I love stories like these!  One of the bloodhounds they adopted became a K-9 who holds the record for the most rescues in it's police force.  Another was a highly unsocialized bearded collie/border collie cross who was put to work as a herding dog.  So many amazing "back from the nearly dead" stories.

I have a friend that lives in Frenchtown(local little burb outside fo Missoula) that trains dogs to be paws ability dogs. They do the greatest service. Fantastic work.

They are trained to assist people with their daily needs. One gal got one of Jhan's dogs to help her get in and out of bed, out of chairs. He can go with her to the store, ride on a bus, plane, train with her. As he is certified for all. He answers the phone and brings it to her, he helps her up stairs, down stairs, He is her ears. He does such amazing things.

Reminds me of a woman who is twisted up a bit in her joints.  She loves gardening, but can't get up and down to her knees well.  So they trained a St Bernard to stand by her and allow her to lean on him and push herself up off the ground with his weight to support her.  Give them a job and these dogs will do just about anything!
