Can you believe that Menu Foods did a study and tested this stuff out (the recalled food) on real pets and one out of every 6 DIED in the study and they STILL released the food?

That is an outrage!

Shouldn't there be some kind of law against that?

If pet food is FDA regulated it probably has a law against it.

Keep checking those lists folks!

I heard on the news that they are still adding brands to that list.

We've now lost two cats to the tainted food. They started exhibiting symptoms a few weeks before the news broke. Jasmine was put down in late February and her brother Cagney was put down Monday. They were fed only Iams DRY food and treated to a few table scraps every now and then. I will really miss my buddy Cagney. He was a healthy 19 lbs in the photo below but dwindled to 12 lbs before he stopped eating and drinking last weekend.

My buddy Cagney.

I am very sorry for your loss as well.

I don't think Iams dry is on the list or has a problem. I have been feeding that to my cats for years now and all 5 have no problems. In fact I have one that is 19 last month and is doing as good as any other in the house with the exception of his weight which is normal at that age.

If you are sure the Iams dry is the culprit, take a sample to a lab and have it tested.

I can't even enter this Thread anymore.  Reading about the loss of animals really saddens me to the point of depression.  If my Snuggles or Cocoa were to die from something like this.................I might go after, and kill the person responsible.

Thank you all for the kind words.

No Iams dry food is listed. However, we had been feeding them only the Iams Dry Indoor Weight & Hairball Care. To have two cats with kidney failure at the same time is suspect at the least. And Cagney had two vets at two different hospitals stumped until the news broke on the food. They couldn't believe a cat of his size and appearance could have the bad blood results or xrays showing his kidneys being half the size they should have been when first examined. They first suspected radiator fluid but our cats never go outside unless in a carrier.

Which food do you feed him/her? The first indication we had was finding clear vomit in the morning, no food just clear liquid. The vet said it was due to the high levels of phosphates in the blood from low kidney function leaving the cat nauseous.

I am feeding the hairball formula too. Have been all along. I used to feed the Blue Seal but they stopped carrying it in the store where I get the dog's food from.

If you think it was the food, then you should get a sample to an independent lab and find out for sure instead of speculation.

What about your water? Could that be suspect? Treats? there are TONS Of treats on the list too.

Go to TK Pet Pros and keep updated.

The cats started showing symptoms in late December so that bag of food is long gone. I doubt the water is/was the problem or there would have been a major outcry in our city of half a million people.

We don't give them treats after my mother-in-law thought it funny to let our previous two cats eat a whole can! That stuff was like kitty heroin. She didn't care because she didn't have to clean up the mess they left!! Really, she loved cats and had a very hard time telling them "no" when it came to treats.

I'm on a daily pet email list to keep updated.

Do you have an up date on the TREATS involved?  I feed my Shih Tzu's  Z/D ULTRA dry, and so far that hasn't shown up to my knowledge.  I would sure like to know what treats are involved.  Thank's ::nsmile::
