Sailing is one of the few sports where you bend mother nature to your will.  Challenging, requiring great skill, yet peaceful, relaxing, and satisfying.

Are there any sailors on the forums other than me, Saint Guru, and Oreville?

If so, what do you sail?

Where do you dail?

Hailing port?

Cheers,

Bob

I was a sailor once, back a long time ago, but alas matey, my ship had no sail to speak of. It was a mighty ship on the open seas, one that many a man and evil doer would think twice before attempting to send her to Davey Jones' locker.

She held a massive crew (5,000) and her belly was full of weaponry(Tomcats), and rrrgh- she sailed the 7 seas under her own power.

A fine ship she was..

Some refer to them in todays' world as flat tops or as we really know- Aircraft carriers.

Yeah, flattops rule! When I sail down the bay, the Saratoga and the Forrestal are tied up at Newport Naval Base. Quite a sight. Not long ago, the Iowa was tied up alongside of them. The Iowa has since been moved to the left coast as a floating museum.

Cheers,

Bob

I spent much time when I was growing up on dad's sailboat here in NYC.  Used to go out and about near the Verazzano Bridge and the surrounding area.

Used to spend 2 weeks in the summer cruising the Long Island Sound.  Actually, cruising is not the right word, it was more like sitting and bobbing along since there's no wind in the LI Sound in July....:X

Still, as a result of all those years "at sea" I do know how to sail...

So what nuke were you on? My other half was a Jolly Roger. VF-84 on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. He was the guy who kept the Tomcats flight ready.

Isn't it a shame that they retired that plane? Coolest plane ever!

LOL I read this thinking it was a Navy topic when I saw the word Sailor.... not sure but shouldn't it be sailer?

ARGH! Did ye speak th' Pirate speak last month on the 19th? 'Twas international Talk Like a Pirate day ye' know!
