Does anyone here play cards?  Not those online, play-all-by-yourself games, but where you actually sit at a table, tangible cards in hand, with other people around you?  I have three favorite games, listed in order of most favorite to least favorite

Our father taught Erinna and myself blackjack when we were about 6 and 9.  (??? Sis?  Is that right?)  We had a coffee can full of pennies that we used to "gamble" with, and while I didn't learn to gamble well with this game, (that came later, on a pool table) I got the drift and like this one.  Erinna plays well, and is better at it than I am.

Poker is a very close second to Euchre, as long as it's not a game with all those unending rules and weird quirks.  5- or 7-card draw, nothing wild.  I came home one night about 6 years ago to a houseful of people after a long, horrible day at work and was so annoyed to have them there, I jumped in and won $180 in about 45 minutes.

Now Euchre....this is the best damn game ever invented.  I resisted learning it for a long time and, ironically, learned it when I was at the peak of my doping and drinking days.   Ever since, if there are 3 other people in a room and a deck of cards, I want to play EUCHRE!!!!  Totally addictive!!  None of the stupid "side rules" for this one, either.  Screw the dealer is about as fancy as I want to get.  None of that "no ace no face" crap, etc.

So...who else plays cards? 

I think we should have a gathering at my house and get a Euchre tournament going.  I'll buy the booze as long as everyone hands over their car keys as they walk in the door.
