I'm not a hunter, but I don't have any ethical or moral objections to the principle of hunting game.

I can understand the thrill of the hunt in tracking a deer and making a well-placed shot. If I were starving I could see the benefit of killing anything to eat, no matter what the means.

In the case of hunting for sport (not survival), I don't see what is either sporting or exciting about sitting up in a tree stand and waiting for a deer to come by so you can blast it.

What makes hunting from a tree stand exciting?

I have to agree, I don't really get it either. But a few people I know tell me that it is very challenging because they are often hundreds of yards away, and you only really get one shot.

But, I think dove hunting is fun! :D

What makes hunting from a tree stand exciting?

Most people I know get 80 lbs-120 lbs of venison. that could last 6 months maybe less I have been hunting bow from my tree stand this year.If you know the trails that deer are running to set up in a tree stand w/a bow is better hunting by site, get a clear shot, felling a dear, later go to shotgun and get another,my stand got raided this year, after watching them all year, finding a good place and setting up is part of the sport, how often would you take a walk, find an animals trail(dropping, feeding schedules, size, wht, sex)and say WOW a large animal came through here!.......so to say "what is the sport of having a tree stand" and saying "how long have you planned this caper" may become a mote point when you call it "just a tree stand"..............go ahead, put a tree house in the woods and see how many deer you can outsmart and actually kill them not just wing-em then call it lame................just a debate, nothing personel!.................alot of hard work does go into it.

As a hunter myself I can tell you that hunting from a tree is VERY exciting.  The practice just to be able to place an arrow well is tough enough.  Then you have to get to your stand, make sure you haven't left scent behind, make sure you don't make any noise, and that you're not seen.  All that's fine....as long as a deer comes by you.  Getting that to happen takes months of scouting, learning the patterns the deer take and then....THEN, you have to have the deer close enough for your comfort and facing in a direction that allows you to hit the kill zone.  All of this is on the condition that you don't somehow spook the deer, which is the only simple part of hunting....giving yourself away and blowing the whole game.

I'm the same way as Shiro, I don't hunt myself, but I'm good with others that want to do it.
I've been a fisherman all my life and bashing a fish's head in on a rock never bothered me.

But I shot one little bunny rabbit, and just maimed it once when I was a teen.  Watching the poor thing die and having to put it out of its misery turned me off on hunting warm-blooded mammals forever.

Its cry almost sounded human.:(

I am a hunter. I have never found it worth my while to sit in a tree stand. I have known many bow hunters to use this technique. To me that is not hunting but merely a waiting game. See how long your ass gets numb before some unsuspecting deer comes along.

There is nothing that makes hunting from a tree stand exciting as far as I am concerned. I do not hunt for sport but rather for survival. I do not have game animals hanging from my walls either.
