Pool. billiards, snooker.  It's all good.  I have been shooting pool for over 25 years and it used to be my job.  Both for gambling, and for teaching.  Can't think of much more of a fun evening than a broad walking into a pool hall or bar, scaring up a game of 3-ball with a bunch of guys, and walking out with all their money.

So.  Anyone else play pool?

Wow, you were hardcore pool, Criss! My grandfather taught me it and I played it all through childhood and got very damn good. I'm just fairly good now.

9 ball is what most of the pros play these days, but the newest game on the pro circuit is 7-ball.  I'll give it a shot, pun intended, but I don't go for really short games like this.  But I do love me some 9-ball!!  Strategy, safe shots, and fouls all come into play big time.

I am currently schooling a pal of mine on buying his own cue.  Lots of stuff goes into purchasing your own "weapon" for this game.  It's fun, and it brings back memories of when I used to teach.  (Used to ride, used to teach.....weird.)

I played a lot many years ago and I mean a LOT.

I had my own cue after a while, but I was ok with one off the rack in a decent place.

It all eye and feel i think and when I was younger......I was lucky to have a bit

Newbie, what's your favorite game?  For 2-player I like 9-ball.  For multiple players, I like 3-ball.

My fav is 8 ball, followed close by 9 bay.

I don't much care for multi-player games.

I used to play all the time...

I don't anymore...I guess I sort of got sick of it, as I used to play about every day...

I prefer 7 ball over 9 ball...I have alot better chance of actually running out than I do playing 9 ball(Obviously)

I sort of self taught myself, and still really don't have the proper techniques down, but I was better than most people in regular bars(Not so much in bars that have pool leagues)

The guys up at the pool hall tell me that the best way to learn is to practice the fundamentals as opposed to just playing...They're probably right, but I think that's kind of boring...That, and I am stubborn and would rather do it myself.

K., I can't agree with the opinion that the best way to practice is not playing but going through the fundamentals.  I became the player I am by seeking out players better than I am and playing them until I could beat them consistently.  The fundamentals are vital, but to only  practice them and not a more experienced opponent will take away from many lessons, including the very important psychological advantage that wins games.

Pool is 10% skill and 90% psychology.  I have defeated many players before I had my stick put together.

Yeah

I just had the mentality that if I'm playing someone elses game(By holding the stick different, or using a different type of shot selection) then that would negate the fun aspect of it for me...

I want to be great at it(In fact I want to be the best in the world) but if I can't play my own game, then I just assume not play at all.

They would usually say that because I am the type of player that has to make every shot seem amazing...It's just how I play...]

I use alot of "english" as opposed to being more of a speed player...Which adds to most disapproving with the way I play...

Funny thing is, is when I ran out the entire rack on a bunch of people who regularly go to Vegas, the room was dead silent, and all of them had to fork up the money. And I had only been playing for about a year and a half(practically every day though)

Well there ya go.  You like english, and it works for you.  Me, I tend to make the cue ball and rails do my work for me.  We both run racks, and we both win.  Personal preference plays a lot into style and basics.
