I feel angry that these parents left their daughter and twin infants alone in an hotel room only to "check on them" every half hour while dining at a tapas restaurant!!! They should have hired a babysitter or not gone at all. How horribly sad...! That dear little girl must be terrified.

i have to say Britt, i agree 100%. they were in an unknown venue. i am sure they are beating themselves up over it, but Jesus they still put their fun first. i hope that baby is alive.

If they were poor and the venue was not an international vacation, people would immediately scream, "Child neglect!" It is curious how no one in the press questions the judgement of the parents. I am appalled at their lack of good sense. Even were they back in the UK, you NEVER leave a small child and twin infants alone. especially not while dining at a restaurant. That is so odd.

Areas of the Mark Warner Ocean Club in Praia da Luz in the Algarve have been sealed off by officers looking for Madeleine, from Leicestershire. Her parents left her at their apartment on Thursday evening while they were at a nearby restaurant. Doctors Gerry and Kate McCann have spoken of their "anguish and despair". Relatives have flown to the Algarve to be with the couple, who were holidaying with their three children. Speaking to press on Friday evening, Mr and Mrs McCann, from Rothley, pleaded for the return of their "beautiful" Madeleine. Mr McCann, with his wife at his side, read out an emotional statement outside the holiday apartments on Friday evening. "We cannot describe the anguish and despair we are feeling as parents of our beautiful daughter Madeleine," he said. "We request that anyone with any information relating to Madeleine's disappearance, no matter how trivial, contact the Portuguese police and help us get her back safely." 'Slow response' The Ocean Club resort offered a creche service but the couple decided to leave Madeleine and two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie sleeping in the apartment. They had taken turns to return from the restaurant to check on their children.  Madeleine disappeared while her parents were at a nearby restaurant Madeleine, who turns four next Friday, was last seen by her father at about 2100 local time. When Mrs McCann went to check on her about an hour later, she found the bedroom's outside shutter and window had been opened and her daughter missing. Police were notified and resort staff and guests helped the McCanns search the complex grounds into Friday morning. Pictures of Madeleine have been widely distributed, and ports and the Spanish police put on alert. Three Family Liaison Officers from Leicestershire Police are due to arrive in the Algarve at the request of the Foreign Office. Mr McCann's sister Philomena, criticised the Portuguese police for initially "playing down" their response to the disappearance. She has been in phone contact with her brother. Speaking from her home in Glasgow, she said: "The police have stepped up the search much more than before... "But he thinks it's just too little, too late. "It was hours before the local police turned up and we're talking two bobbies that totally downplayed the incident and said that Maddie had maybe just wandered off."

monday, may 7. this story is now international news. the child has been gone since thursday evening. the police have a tentative sketch they won't release so it 'doesn't endanger' the girl. the area is very expensive high-end resort, and the population is about 60% British. now the police have extended search to approx. 9 miles around area. statistically, this is not good, for a child to be missing this long. the first 24 hours are the most critical. the abductor is believed to be British, and it can only be hoped that the publicity did not panic him into killing her. What a beautiful little girl. I hope she didn't wander off and drown. My guess is someone was watching her and when the parents left they took her, I hope I'm wrong. Parents are to blame her very simple what the heck were they thinking leaving a 4 year old alone, she probably got scared and walked off. Or worse she was abducted. Don't hear many child abduction in the Europe. Sad.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up worn out screaming what a ride.. |

There are so many "minor" cases of this here that never get to the news as it isn't big stuff. It's appalling to me-I wont even leave my children alone to go next door-its damn easy to break your principles when you are on your own and have run out of milk for their breakfast the next morning. Do you get 3 kids in the car in their pyjamas and take them all out just to get milk? I've done it and I'll do it again. They were together and on holiday and they have NO excuse. It's disgusting.

Exactly Hammy this was neglect on her parents part period. Three kids left alone under the age of 4 criminal. Your kids get taken away from you here for less and you get arrested and spend time in Jail. I agree I remember calling my parents in the middle of the night if I had got called back to work for an emergency up until my daughter was a teenager, and even then I had a neighbor friend of 33 years come over. You just don't take chances period. You never take your eyes off you kids, ever.

I agree Carla-as bad as I felt taken them out to get milk I know how I would have felt leaving them home alone. My question is how can the parents relax and have fun in a restaurant knowing the kids are there alone? I wouldn't be able to!
