hi Nora! ::whello:: this tool will blow out car window glass quickly.

Auto Center Punch

A simple superior tool about the size of a stubby pencil that punches a tiny depression in metal. It's used to start a hole, or mark a point. But unlike standard punches, which you need to hit with a hammer -- whose impact usually misaligns the spot you intended to punch -- this one gets its punch from a tiny internal spring that flexes as you press the tip down. You simply press the punch where you want a dent and there it is exactly. A classic. the rescue trade also use these pretty routinely to safely remove the glass in automobiles. They work particularly well on the glass in the side and rear windows and leave all of the little glass bits intact in the window frame until you gently remove them with gloved hands. The bits then go where you want (generally) and not on your patient.  keeping one in your car would let you punch out your own windows in case of emergency. Just remember that it is key to use the device on the lower corner of a window or the glass can shatter and go everywhere.

2 Children Die of Heat in Parked Cars in Separate Cases
Friday, August 24,2007 ST. LOUIS —  A 7-month-old infant was found dead in the heat of a parked car Thursday near the Washington University School of Medicine, authorities said. Hours later, a 2-year-old toddler was found dead in a vehicle in a suburb of Cincinnati.

Authorities said the 7-month-old's parents are a doctor and a medical researcher at the university. Their names and the child's name have not been released.

On a day when the temperature reached the upper 90s, a woman spotted the baby, called 911 and broke the car window, police Capt. James Gieseke said. The child was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The child had been in the car for three hours, Gieseke said. It's believed the mother left the child in the back seat of the father's car, but that the father thought the mother had taken the child.

"There was a horrible, devastating mix-up as to who was going to take the child to day care," Gieseke said.

Details were still sketchy because the couple were too distraught to give complete statements, Gieseke said.

Jan Null, adjunct professor of meteorology at San Francisco State University said the death was the 22nd in the U.S. this year involving a child left in a hot vehicle.

A 2-year-old girl was found dead Thursday in her mother's sweltering sport utility vehicle in Union Township, about 20 miles southeast of Cincinnati, police said.

The girl, Cecilia Slaby, was strapped in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle, which was in the parking lot of Glen Este Middle School where the girl's mother, Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby, is an assistant principal, said Clermont County Prosecutor Don White. No charges had been filed.

An autopsy was planned to determine the cause of death. Temperatures in the area reached 100 degrees Thursday, according to the National Weather Service

Police said they received several 911 calls about 3:15 p.m. from people who spotted the girl in the vehicle.

Father Arrested After Leaving Toddler in Car at Brothel Parking Lot
Tuesday, September 04, 2007

 Storey County Sheriff's Department

PATRICK, Nev. —  An Oregon man is in custody after allegedly leaving his 2-year-old daughter in a car in 95-degree heat in the parking lot of a brothel east of Reno.

The Storey County sheriff's office said Lucien Hoffman of Bend, Ore., was being held in the country jail in lieu of $40,000 bail on charges of child neglect.

Hoffman told deputies he was attending a function at the Mustang Ranch brothel off Interstate 80, 15 miles east of Reno.

A brothel security guard found the child crying inside the car on Saturday and took her indoors until authorities arrived.

The toddler was treated for dehydration and released to the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here.... Was it, by any chance, a biological function??

:censored: Cop charged in police dog's hot car death
  • Story Highlights
  • NEW: Police sergeant charged with animal cruelty
  • Police dog 'Bandit' left in squad car on 109-degree day
  • Sgt. Tom Lovejoy ran errands, napped, ate out with wife while dog stayed in car
  • Officer returns to court on September 25
PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- A suburban police officer is accused of leaving a police dog in a patrol car for more than 12 hours on a 109-degree day, killing the animal.

Sgt. Tom Lovejoy is charged with animal cruelty for leaving his police dog in a hot car.

Chandler police Sgt. Tom Lovejoy was booked into the Maricopa County jail on a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty after a two-week investigation into the death of a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois named Bandit.

He was released later Wednesday, said Capt. Paul Chagolla, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's investigation showed Bandit was in Lovejoy's patrol car from about 9 a.m. to shortly after 10 p.m. August 11. During that time, the investigation found, the officer ran errands, napped and ate out with his wife. Lovejoy later found the dog dead in the car.

"I am certain Sgt. Lovejoy has suffered greatly from leaving hispolice dog in a sweltering car," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a statement. "I do not relish the idea of compounding his sadness. However, Lovejoy must be treated like anyone else in similar circumstances."

Lovejoy said Wednesday night that he is scheduled to appear in court September 25 and that his lawyer advised him not to comment further.

"With the sheriff railing on me right now, it's kind of hard to say anything," Lovejoy said.

Mom Charged In Toddler Heat Death
Relatives Say She Didn't Want Child

POSTED: 5:42 pm PDT October 30, 2007
UPDATED: 9:43 am PDT October 31, 2007

  • PHOENIX -- A mother who left her 17-month-old son in the car for at least seven hours while she worked at a west Phoenix Hooters was charged with negligent homicide in the child's death.

Ashly Duchene, 22, was booked after investigators learned she had said she wanted her freedom more than her son.

  •

    Ashly Duchene

"We're not saying this was a deliberate act yesterday, but that does give insight to her mindset that caring for her child was not her top priority," Phoenix Police Sgt. Joel Tranter told KTAR.

Tranter said family members told detectives that Duchene had made statements that she did not want to care for the child and wanted her freedom.

"It's also my understanding that other family members, perhaps, had taken the child away from her for brief periods of time," Tranter said. "They had concerns."

Police said Duchene had planned to drop off her son, Ryan, at day care before heading to work at the Hooters restaurant near 29th Avenue and Bell Road.

Instead, officers said, Duchene went straight to work with the toddler still in the vehicle.

Tranter said, "When she was driving to work, she made a brief statement that she actually looked in her rear view mirror, saw a young child seated behind her in the child seat. Exactly what happened after that, we're not sure."

Duchene arrived at work at 10 a.m. and when her shift ended around 5 p.m., she discovered Ryan was inside the vehicle and was unresponsive, investigators said.

    Authorities pronounced the child dead.

The high temperature in Phoenix on Tuesday was 89 degrees. Readings inside the vehicle reached upwards of 110 degrees, authorities said.

Police said the windows of Duchene's silver Honda Civic were tinted, making it difficult for anyone to tell a child was inside.

"She's probably feeling an overwhelming sense of guilt," said Michelle Fritz, a crisis counselor with the Phoenix Fire Department.

"She's probably nervous about what her parents are going to think," Fritz said.

Nationwide, 32 children die every year after being left unattended in motor vehicles, according to researchers at San Francisco State University.

Whoa.  I didn't see the dead K-9 till just now.  Would there be a difference (increase) in the charges as a K-9 is a badge-wearing cop?

They should be able to.  A person kills a human cop and he is hunted down till he's found and usually shot.  From the stories I have read, anyway.  Damn K-9 cop should know better.  Asshole.  If he wiggles his way out of this and gets back on the job, he won't be able to be a K-9 cop anymore, will he?

Sorry, I'm hijacking your babies in hot cars thread into focusing on this poor dog.

Police said the mother gave no remorse for leaving the boy in the car and said she left him there because he was asleep.
Can the state tie her tubes so she can't inflict her stupidity on any more children?

not a baby...broke my heart to read how this boy so desperately tried to get out of the car. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE GOD-DAMNED PARENTS???? THE DRUNKEN BASTARDS!

A French couple is facing involuntary homicide charges after they locked their thirteen-year-old son inside of a car on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and he suffocated to death, Sky News reported Tuesday.

According to the Sky News report, the couple was on vacation with their son when they left him sleeping inside of the locked vehicle for more than 12 hours as they retired to their villa following a night out with friends.

The teen reportedly tried desperately to escape from the vehicle – where police said temperatures would have soared to more than 120 degrees – slashing at the upholstery with scissors and hitting the reinforced windows, Sky News said.

“There were signs in the car that he had fought to get out, but it was a very high security new model car that could not be opened from the inside,” a police spokesman said. could not be opened from inside???

His body was discovered on the back seat of the security SUV, parked in the sunshine, when his parents awoke at 10 a.m. the next morning.

The identity of the parents, both from Paris, was not immediately released. Police are investigating the incident.
