Thief fails to grasp concept of getaway
Thu Oct 18, 12:34 PM ET

A thief caught shoplifting a packet of cheese from a supermarket in Germany tried to make his getaway in a cement mixer, but he was quickly nabbed by police.

"He was out on the job and suddenly got hungry, as honest workers sometimes do," said police spokesman in the eastern city of Chemnitz Thursday.

When a shop detective in the town of Limbach-Oberfrohna caught the man stealing a 2.79 euro ($3.98) packet of processed cheese, the 55-year-old broke free and leaped into his cement mixing truck outside, police said.

The shop alerted police, who arrested the man when he stopped his getaway vehicle at a red light a few hundred yards away.

Kirksville man accused of switching water bottle's UPC_code with $500 TV

Published: Thursday, April 24, 2008 1:40 PM

KIRKSVILLE  Mo.  - A Kirksville man faces a felony indictment after trying to purchase a LCD television for less than $3 by allegedly replacing its UPC code with that of a water bottle.

Reginald Newman, 44, was indicted Monday by the Adair County Grand Jury and has been charged with attempted stealing by deceit.

According to documents filed in Adair County Circuit Court, Newman allegedly tried to purchase a 26-inch Viore LCD television from Wal-Mart, claiming the UPC code valued at $3.16 was the proper code the television, which normally sells for more than $517.
If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000 or any combination of the two.

He is in custody at the Adair County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash-only bond.

Man Caught With Cocaine Stash In Underwear
HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) ? A 53-year-old Maine man faces a felony drug charge after police in New Hampshire say they found a pound of cocaine hidden in his underwear.

According to State Police, Ralph Belmont of Shapleigh, Maine, was arrested Friday afternoon following a routine traffic stop on Interstate 95 in Hampton.

Police say Belmont and the driver of the car appeared overly nervous, so they searched the car with the consent of the driver.

That's when Trooper John Hennessey noticed a large bulge in Belmont's pants. maybe he was just glad to see him? :smitten:

After getting a search warrant, police reported finding the cocaine in a plastic bag in Belmont's underwear.

Belmont is being held on $100,000 bail pending a court hearing Monday. The driver was not charged.

Homeowner Detains Intoxicated Burglar With Conversation

John Michael Baker

WINNSBORO — An intoxicated burglar’s talkative nature got him busted after the homeowner was able to detain him with conversation until officers could arrive.

Wood County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Debbie Foster said the suspect, John Michael Baker, 25, of Winnsboro, was arrested on multiple counts of burglary early Thursday morning.

“Sgt. Robert Holland was dispatched to Farm-to-Market Road 515 and County Road 4805 in reference to a homeowner detaining a subject who just burglarized their residence,” she said.

Foster said the homeowner’s wife witnessed Baker breaking into their home and called her husband and told him.

She said the woman’s husband hurriedly made his way to their home and was able to stop Baker who had already fled the home and was driving away.

“They knew each other so the homeowner just started talking to the suspect after he had called 911 and was able to keep him there on the side of the road,” she said.

Foster said in the suspect’s vehicle deputies and officers from Winnsboro Police Department found several guns stolen from the residence.

In a body search, officers found marijuana in the suspect’s pocket.

She added that Baker was also wanted out of Franklin County for burglary of a vehicle and burglary of a habitation.

He was also charged with felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana and the residential burglaries. He remains in custody in the Wood County Jail on bonds totaling $59,500.

Foster said it was unusual for a burglar to stop and talk after committing a crime.

“He was pretty intoxicated and well I don’t think we’ve had one quite end like this before,” she said chuckling.

rubbed him with spice rub?? what was he going to do, eat him?? ::scratch::

i swear, some days i just don't get it! ::rotfl::

FRESNO, California (AP) -- Authorities say they've arrested a man who broke into the home of two California farmworkers, stole money, rubbed one with spices and whacked the other with a sausage before fleeing.

Fresno County sheriff's Lt. Ian Burrimond says 22-year-old Antonio Vasquez was found hiding in a field wearing only a T-shirt, boxers and socks after the Saturday morning attack.

He says deputies arrested Vasquez after finding a wallet containing his ID in the ransacked house.

The farmworkers told deputies the suspect woke them Saturday morning by rubbing spices on one of them and smacking the other with an 8-inch sausage.

Burrimond says money allegedly stolen was recovered.
