Aug. 8, 2007, 8:54PM Rape suspect nabbed after he sends his photo from victim's cell Associated Press VICTORVILLE, CALIF. — Police identified a man as a suspect in a rape after he used the cell phone he stole from the victim to send a photo of himself to her friend, authorities said. The armed man raped the 23-year-old woman in a park on May 20 and stole cell phones from her and two of her friends, sheriff's Detective Bob Thacker said Tuesday. Weeks later, the woman received an e-mail from a friend asking why she had sent a photograph of an unknown man from her cell phone, officials said. The photo showed a man in a white T-shirt standing in front of a house. "We couldn't believe that he sent a picture of himself to one of her contacts. I don't know if he knew he did it, but we can only assume it was an accident," Thacker said. "That was kind of a big break in the case for us." Telephone records showed the phone had been used to call a home and authorities checked the area. "Right away we see this gold house, with one of the shutters missing and the same rock design on the garage exactly the same as the picture," Thacker said. DNA taken from William Bates, 19, who is serving two years in prison on an unrelated armed robbery conviction, linked him to the attack, authorities said. San Bernardino County district attorney's office spokeswoman Susan Mickey said prosecutors were still reviewing the case and had not charged him in the attack. Mickey said she did not know the name of Bates' attorney. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/bizarre/5038907.html

Aug. 8, 2007, 8:53PM Gas station burglars foiled by candy wrappers Associated Press PASADENA, MD. — Doctors often warn of the health risks of eating junk food, but it seems the treats can be a problem for burglars, too. Four teenagers broke into a gas station early Wednesday and left a trail of candy bar wrappers along the road as they left, said Cpl. Mark Shawkey, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Police Department. A police dog located the teens a quarter-mile away. "Never heard of a K-9 having that extra help in completing a track," Shawkey said. Three boys and a girl, ages 15 and 16, were charged with burglary and theft. They were not named because of their ages. Shawkey said the teens stole candy, chips and cigars from the BP station. Most of the junk food was found scattered around the road where they were apprehended. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/bizarre/5038904.html

we all knew duct tape is good for all kinds of things. AP/Ashland Police Department Would-Be Robber Incites Laughs, Not FearMan wraps head in tape as disguise to rob Kentucky liquor store; flees with change only to be caught in parking lot.

Aug. 28, 2007, 8:15PM New York robber wanted $4, and not a penny more Associated Press GREENBURGH, N.Y. — A knife-wielding robber needed only $4, so he refused to take a $10 bill from his victim and waited while the man made change at a pizza parlor, police said Tuesday. He then took the $4 and ran off, only to be captured a few blocks away, police said. The suspect, James Mitchell, 48, was arraigned Tuesday on robbery and weapon charges. His attorney, Arlene Popkin, refused to comment. Police Capt. Joseph DeCarlo said it "really is an odd case, but it is a robbery." The confrontation began over an artificial rose that the 18-year-old victim had just bought, police said. "He came out of the store and was approached by the suspect, who said, 'Give me the rose,'" DeCarlo said. "The kid told him, 'Go in there and get one.' But the suspect says, 'I want that one, and your money, too,' and pulls out a knife. When the teen said all he had was $10, the suspect said he wanted only $4, DeCarlo said. "He tells the kid to go into the pizza parlor and get change," DeCarlo said. "Then the kid comes out, he takes his $4 and he leaves." The teenager and his mother, who was across the street, called police and led officers to Mitchell, DeCarlo said. He couldn't say why Mitchell wanted only $4.

We were watching one of those "Most Shocking" programs last night...this one was on "Robberies"... in Taiwan, two drug induced morons were robbing a convenience store. Beat the crap out of the two girl cashiers, left with their money, bought another fix and were found dead of an overdose 2 miles away. Justice is served.

Police Find Meth Lab After Man Misdials ESCATAWPA, Miss. (AP) -- A man trying to call a news station to complain about not getting a FEMA trailer after Hurricane Katrina accidentally dialed 911 and was charged with making methamphetamine after police arrived, authorities said. Curtiss Randall Coleman was trying to get the number for Biloxi's WLOX-TV on Wednesday just before the 6 p.m. newscast, investigators said. He misdialed when trying to reach directory information and called 911 instead of 411.... complete article at link... http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/K/KATRINA_METH_LAB?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US Last edited on 06:41 pm by Amy |

Burglary suspect trapped in air shaft Posted on Tue, Oct. 23, 2007 ![]() AP / MARION COUNTY FIRE RESCUE Jeffery Mumani is shown trapped in a 15 foot long ventilation shaft at a CVS store in Silver Springs Shores, Fla. The man told firefighters he was trapped for about 10 hours before anyone discovered him. Other than being thirsty and sustaining several minor lacerations, he was in stable condition. He was being held on charges of violating his probation, but it was not clear if he had been charged in the latest incident. (AP) -- A suspected thief trying to help himself to convenience store goods instead wound up crying for help after becoming stuck in an air shaft for 10 hours. Jeffery Mumani, 25, was rescued Tuesday. He removed an air conditioning cover at a CVS store Monday night and tried to enter the store via the shaft but became trapped, Marion County Sheriff's Capt. James Pogue said. He began calling for help about 8 a.m. Tuesday. It took firefighters an hour and a half to rescue Mumani, but he suffered only minor cuts and was in stable condition, Fire Rescue spokeswoman Heather Danenhower told The Orlando Sentinel. He was being held on charges of violating his probation, but it was not clear if he had been charged in the latest incident, according to a spokeswoman at the Marion County jail.
