Body Found Burned, Beheaded Identified As Sex Offender

NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. —  The Detroit News and Free Press are reporting that a burned and beheaded body found by a utility crew is that of a convicted sex offender.

A single fingerprint from the victim's burned hand has allowed Michigan State Police to identify him as 26-year-old Daniel Gene-Vincent Sorensen.

The print reveals that Sorensen had been a registered sex offender in Illinois.

Northville Township sewer and water department crews found the body at the end of a cul-de-sac about 20 miles northwest of Detroit about 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Sorensen's head has not been found.

A cause of death has not been determined.

There's a small amount more here, LC.  According to this report, Sorensen was convicted of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim between 13-17, according to the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry.

( I have no idea what fourth degree criminal sexual conduct is.  The victim is  technically a child - but not in the pedophile sense, IMO. )

(1) A person is guilty of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree if he or she engages in sexual contact with another person and if any of the following circumstances exist:

(a) That other person is at least 13 years of age but less than 16 years of age, and the actor is 5 or more years older than that other person.

(b) Force or coercion is used to accomplish the sexual contact. Force or coercion includes, but is not limited to, any of the following circumstances:

(i) When the actor overcomes the victim through the actual application of physical force or physical violence.

(ii) When the actor coerces the victim to submit by threatening to use force or violence on the victim, and the victim believes that the actor has the present ability to execute that threat.

(iii) When the actor coerces the victim to submit by threatening to retaliate in the future against the victim, or any other person, and the victim believes that the actor has the ability to execute that threat. As used in this subparagraph, "to retaliate" includes threats of physical punishment, kidnapping, or extortion.

(iv) When the actor engages in the medical treatment or examination of the victim in a manner or for purposes which are medically recognized as unethical or unacceptable.

(v) When the actor achieves the sexual contact through concealment or by the element of surprise.

(c) The actor knows or has reason to know that the victim is mentally incapable, mentally incapacitated, or physically helpless.

(d) That other person is related to the actor by blood or affinity to the third degree and the sexual contact occurs under circumstances not otherwise prohibited by this chapter. It is an affirmative defense to a prosecution under this subdivision that the other person was in a position of authority over the defendant and used this authority to coerce the defendant to violate this subdivision. The defendant has the burden of proving this defense by a preponderance of the evidence. This subdivision does not apply if both persons are lawfully married to each other at the time of the alleged violation.

(e) The actor is a mental health professional and the sexual contact occurs during or within 2 years after the period in which the victim is his or her client or patient and not his or her spouse. The consent of the victim is not a defense to a prosecution under this subdivision. A prosecution under this subsection shall not be used as evidence that the victim is mentally incompetent.

(f) That other person is at least 16 years of age but less than 18 years of age and a student at a public or nonpublic school, and the actor is a teacher, substitute teacher, or administrator of that public or nonpublic school. This subdivision does not apply if the other person is emancipated or if both persons are lawfully married to each other at the time of the alleged violation.

(2) Criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree is a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 2 years or a fine of not more than $500.00, or both.

I guess a lot of people would get angry enough maybe even to burn and behead a bloke who raped a seven year old boy or girl but they'd be lots less likely to get that deadly with a bloke who got his leg over a young teenager - who in other times could have been considered of marrigeable age.

However, family could get the irrits. Dad or the ?girl's brothers maybe, though in a lot of cultures they'd be more likely to burn and behead the victim who'd "dishonoured" the family.

Still - all this is conjecture. I guess the full story will eventually emerge.

orenson worked as a bar bouncer, his father told WJBK-TV.

"Who would do something like this to my son? It's not real to me right now," said Jim Sorenson.

The criminal sexual conduct charge stemmed from a relationship with an underage girl, his father said. His sex offender status was "a cloud that hung over his head," his mother Kim told WXYZ-TV.

"He was a good person ... but he had a rough life," she said.

Well, "sexual contact" usually means touching. In Texas it means touching any of a list of body parts of another person (even over clothing) with intent to arouse oneself, the other person, or anybody else.

And we don't even know yet whether the murder had anything to do with the past offense. It could be over something totally new.

What am I missing here he was beheaded and burn to death, seems that would be the cause of death.::scratch:: Someone takes your head of you die.

I guess that is the risk they take. If it was my kid or any of my family he would not get off so easy. he would still be alive so as to feel pain.

From one of the reports, Carla, it was suggested that removing the head and burning the hands were done to impede identification. Which may mean Sorensen was already dead, possibly killed somewhere else too.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. —  A human head was found in Hines Park in Dearborn Heights, but authorities don't yet know whether it belongs to a man whose burned, decapitated body was found about five miles away in another Detroit suburb.

The head was found Saturday and was taken to the Wayne County Morgue, where it will be examined further on Monday.

It was found two days after the headless body of 26-year-old Daniel Sorenson was found in a vacant lot in Northville Township. His body was ID'd by a partial fingerprint.

The Detroit News reports that the River Rouge man was registered as a sex offender in Illinois and Michigan.

Police say they have five "persons of interest" in Sorenson's death.
