Police, public searching for missing Cary woman Posted: Jul. 12, 2008 7:47 p.m. Updated: Jul. 13, 2008 2:14 p.m. National Guard pilots, police dogs and friends searched Sunday for a jogger who went missing a day earlier. Nancy Cooper, 34, of Wallsburg Court, went running at 7 a.m. Saturday but did not return home by 9 a.m. or meet friends later that morning as planned. "That was a little odd," said neighbor Diana Duncan, who has known the mother of two since she moved from Canada. "She doesn't stand you up. She'll always call." Duncan said that Cooper did not take her car, keys or identification when she went running. Dozens of people turned out to join a search party from Lochmere Pavilion, at Kildaire Farm Road and Lochmere Drive, around 8 a.m. Sunday. They combed running trails and a golf course by foot and by bicycle, and volunteers plastered flyers with Cooper's picture on buildings and street signs. Cary police officers said they have launched an all-out search for Cooper. "Officers out here on foot, we've had a great number of those out here. We've had K9 out here," Capt. Michael Williams said. "We have had assistance from the National Guard that have flown routes for us in helicopters." Lochemere's running route was believed to be in the Lochmere Lake area or the Regency Park area. She was training for a half marathon and is a member of Lochmere Swim and Tennis Club. "She has two beautiful little girls who I love so much," Duncan said. "We her so much; we all do. We just have to keep looking on." Cooper was described as a white woman, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 120 pounds. She has hazel eyes and brown hair that goes just past her shoulders. She was last seen wearing a T-shirt, running shorts and light blue running shoes. Anyone with information related to Cooper’s whereabouts should contact the Cary Police Department Watch Commander at 919-469-4016.

Why does anyone run alone especially a women. She probably takes the same route daily and someone had been watching her.

time to look at hubby. Police, volunteers expand search for missing Cary mom Posted: Jul. 14, 2008 12:51 p.m. Updated: Jul. 14, 2008 3:22 p.m. Police and dozens of volunteers resumed the search Monday for a Cary mother of two whose husband says she went out for a jog Saturday morning but never returned. "The police have asked us to look a little bit further off the trail," search organizer Mike Morwick said Monday. "Yesterday, we covered every trail in the Lochmere Regency area. We're just going further, we're looking further into the brush to see if there's anything that might raise suspicion." Meanwhile, investigators said they were also interviewing Nancy Cooper's family members and acquaintances to learn more about her life. Police say no one has reported seeing Cooper, 34, after a dinner party in the neighborhood that ended late Friday night. They said they do not believe she had any identification on her Saturday when she apparently left the house. Brad Cooper told police his wife went out about 7 a.m. Saturday but did not return by 9 a.m. or meet friends later that morning, as planned. Police described Cooper as being 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 120 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair that goes just past her shoulders. She was last seen wearing a T-shirt, running shorts and light blue running shoes. Anyone with information about Cooper’s whereabouts is asked to call the Cary Police Department at 919-469-4016. "We consider her to be alive and a missing person, at this time," Cary police Chief Pat Bazemore said at a news conference Monday afternoon. "And our goal is tor bring her home." About 200 people were out searching Monday. That included Cooper's husband, said Bazemore, adding that they have been in direct contact with him. Brad Cooper told WRAL News on Sunday that he and his wife were having "marital issues" but would not elaborate, nor would he comment further about his wife's disappearance. Cooper's father, mother and identical twin sister traveled from Canada to assist in the search. "We have been here today to help find Nancy," Cooper's father, Garry Rentz said. "We believe she will be brought home soon. And we thank the community for the support that they've given and ask they continue in their effort to find our daughter." About 150 people joined police in the search Sunday in the areas of Lochmere Lake and Regency Park, which were believed to be routes Cooper regularly jogs. Crews have searched in and around Lochmere Lake for Cooper, and Bazemore said they will are also searching near Lake Wheeler and Lake Johnson. Volunteers have also posted more than 2,000 fliers asking for the public's help in locating her. Friends said Monday that the search is personal. "Nancy is one of our dearest friends, and we miss her dearly," Morwick said. "And we just want to find an end to this."

Police: No ID Yet on Body Found Near Where North Carolina Mom Disappeared Tuesday, July 15. Nancy Cooper Police said Tuesday that they can't yet positively identify the body of a woman found near the spot where a missing North Carolina mother vanished while jogging. Nancy Cooper, 34, the mother of two young girls, went for a routine run early Saturday morning, but didn't come home to meet friends as planned. The body was found Monday evening by a man walking his dog in a cul-de-sac in Wake County. Authorities were trying to determine if it was that of the missing woman, according to FOX affiliate WRAL TV in Raleigh. Authorities said at a news conference Tuesday morning that they didn't have enough information yet to identify the body that was discovered. They're awaiting autopsy results and medical and dental records. They called the death of the woman found "suspicious," well no kidding sherlock. which is standard procedure when investigators don't immediately know how someone died, and said they believed it was a homicide, according to WRAL. Investigators also said the death appeared to be an isolated case. “We’re not making any assumptions that this is Nancy, but we are working with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office to identify the body,” Cary, N.C., Police Chief Pat Bazemore said Monday. “It is a sad and difficult time for all of us. Our hearts are with Mrs. Cooper’s family and close friends during this very trying time. Police planned to brief reporters again at 5 p.m Cooper's husband, Brad Cooper, told detectives that his wife went jogging about 7 a.m. Saturday but didn't return by 9 a.m. as she'd planned. The couple were reportedly having some marital problems, but friends told FOX News that they didn't think Nancy had left voluntarily nor did they believe Brad had anything to do with her disappearance. Brad Cooper reportedly has been cooperating with police, allowing searches of the house and cars. A friend of Nancy Cooper reported her missing at 2:15 p.m. Saturday when she didn't show up for a get-together. Police said Monday they didn't know why her husband wasn't the one to alert authorities that his wife had disappeared.
