Hi, Everyone.

I just found this interesting article on CNN.  Apparently, scientists now believe that the appendix isn't (or at least, wasn't) as useless as once believed.  The appendix apparently produces bacteria which can be useful in digestion.  It turns out that because we now live in a much more densely populated society, we pick up all the bacteria we need from the environment, but in other locations, where people are much more sparsely populated, producing your own gut bacteria turns out to be a very good thing.  So in industrialized societies, the appendix is usually only good for appendicitis, whereas in more agricultural societies, it can come in a lot more handy.  :cool:
