I'm against zoo's in principle unless they are used to protect and breed endangered species.

I have been to zoo's in the past and the animals incarcerated most of the time cut a very forlorn and depressing figure as they pace their cages.

I am not suprised if an animal like a tiger gets out of its prison for a short while it feels the need to make up for lost time in terms of following its natural instincts.

i feel like you Ninja, but some zoos like san diego, DC and Miami do have preservation of species in the forefront. and habitat areas as opposed to bare cages.

i also have to say, although i feel sorry for them, these brothers have several pending criminal offenses. geragos is their ticket to ride. i really despise the guy. he whored himself for peterson and gained nothing but contempt.

SAN FRANCISCO —  The director of the San Francisco Zoo brushed off criticism that two victims were denied help in the frantic moments after a fatal Christmas Day tiger attack, saying his employees acted heroically.

Meanwhile, authorities said Wednesday that they had discovered an empty vodka bottle in the vehicle the victims drove to the zoo, and were investigating whether alcohol had played any role in the attack.

The zoo is set to open Thursday for the first time since the tiger killed a teenager and injured his two friends, brothers ages 19 and 23. This week, an attorney for the survivors, Mark Geragos, levied criticism that the zoo was slow in its response to the escaped tiger.

The news tonight had some sort of eyewitness statement that there were

actually FOUR "boys" taunting the tiger. And there were earlier reports that

the 2 brothers taken to the hospital had a slingshot with them. I don't

know if any of it is true but it seems to me, these jerkwads were up to no

good. And since their buddy is dead, really all they have to do at this point

is hang tough and keep their mouths shut.

I still can't believe no other zoo patrons saw them and didn't say or do

anything. I can understand fear of reprisals but still...

It takes a special kind of miscreant to pick on a caged animal.  And the worst part of it all is that because of their behavior, the animal had to be put down.  I know it was decided that it had to be done, but it's just really unjust that the animal had to die because of their bullshit.

One thing that's interesting to me....it's a long way from where the one was killed to where the other two ended up...that Tiger had to pass lots of people and tracked them down.  He hunted them specifically...for a reason (imho).

Too bad they didn't have camera's installed before this happened.  I certainly hope more witnesses will come forward.

If it comes out that these lowlifes did in fact taunt this poor creature, can they somehow be held responsible for the death of their friend?

if i'm not mistaken, i think tormenting a zoo animal is a misdemeanor there. as far as their friend's death, they could be assigned a portion of blame (contributory negligence) in a civil action.

SAN FRANCISCO —  The city attorney sought permission to inspect the car and cell phones belonging to the two brothers who survived tiger attacks at the San Francisco Zoo, but the victims are balking, the attorney said.

Deputy City Attorney James Hannawalt sent a letter Friday to the brothers' lawyer, Mark Geragos, asking him to make sure they preserve any photographs or call logs that were on the phones before the Dec. 25 mauling that claimed the life of 17-year-old Carlos Sousa.

San Francisco police have the phones, but the brothers, Kulbir and Paul Dhaliwal, have refused to authorize investigators to examine the contents, according to Hannawalt.

"Your clients refused to cooperate with this request; consequently, no one has yet examined this potentially critical evidence," he wrote in the letter.

It happens alot. Sometimes it's a dog at the end of his chain barking like hell as dum-dums walk by picking on the animal. People forget that a wild animal does not pay attention to "laws" as the have their own laws to abide by. Many forget that as humans they are weak compared to a wild animal. Feeling safe on the other side of the bars thinking they are strong, forgetting their roots as animals themselves..........People are so stupid! And forget that animals do not call us "human" they call us "lunch".

Police: Tiger attack victim was intoxicated, taunting
One of the three victims of San Francisco Zoo tiger attack was intoxicated and admitted yelling and waving at the animal while standing on the railing of the cat's enclosure, police said in court papers. Paul Dhaliwal told the dad of a friend who was killed that they never threw anything, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle. full story
