Hi, Everyone.

I just found this on PC Magazine's site.  Here's the key paragraph:

The body of the e-mails contains another off-the-wall statement like "US Soldier throws boy off cliff, villagers enraged" or "Bad press surrounds US Army as renegade soldiers open fire on civilians" along with a link that typically ends in ….de/r.html.

The link loads a page called "PornTube", whose sole purpose is to install an ActiveX control on your computer, basically making it a slave to whatever malware the attacker decides to put on it.

So, what've we learned today, kids?  ::scratch::

1)  Delete these e-mails when you get them.  (Duh.)
2)  Don't click on links in e-mail.
3)  If you avoid Internet Explorer and Outlook, you'll be invulnerable to such attacks in the first place, because only Internet Explorer and Outlook use ActiveX.

Thank you for your time and attention.  :thanks:

Good advice, I never even open mail unless it is from someone I know and even then I will scan any attachments for crap like that. Sometimes people will unknowingly forward evil gremlins that stare out at you from behind the screen.::chuckle:: and always update for new bad eggs getting laid by nasty hens with blue heads.

The scary part is it doesn't even matter anymore if it's from someone you know.  Someone can get their Outlook address book taken over and the e-mails they send can contain the nasty-grams.  E-mail scanners are a good start, but even they won't catch everything.  You've gotta be really careful that you don't click on any link in any e-mail, no matter who it's from, unless you're absolutely sure that they sent it on purpose, and it's something you were expecting.
