I just watched Flatliners again.  I saw it first when it came out in 1990 and thought it was cool then.  Not wonderful, just intriguing.  Remember this one?  4 medical school students decide to see what death is like under controlled situations and the ability to be brough back after being brain dead for x amount of time.

Well, after having seen it again I have come to a really bizarre realization.  If a doctor was willing to use me as a guinea pig, I would do this.  To see what happens after death and then be brought back to tell people what you saw?  Can you imagine??  What happened to the med students in the movie wasn't exactly a day at the beach, but let's just ignore that and pass it off as dramatization for the movie.

But having faced my own mortality and having no memory of it really makes me wonder.  And it makes me curious.  I doubt any doctor in his right mind would use me as a guinea pig, what with the TBI and the titanium in my head; too many things could go wrong.  But if you had the chance to die, and be brought back to tell people what you saw while brain dead, would you do it?

Maybe it's the thrill-seeker in me, I dunno.  But if I had the chance, yeah.  I'd do it.

Interesting, UTR.  I saw the movie when it first came out, and not since.  So I do not exactly remember what happened to them when they "crossed over".

But what a thought.  I wonder how it would change one's perspective on an afterlife.  If they were not religeous, would it make them more so?  Or vice versa?

I am not exactly sure I would want to do it.  Not out of fear, but of a morbid concern that I would enjoy the visit and not want to return.

No....what if it was horrible?  Then I'd fear death for the rest of my life!  What if it was wonderful, then I'd be pis*ed I came back!  What if there was nothing............that wouldn't bother me really.  It would be like going to sleep without dreaming....  But I have to focus on the now, it would distract me too much.............

Ironically enough, Kevin Bacon plays an atheist.

I have no fear of death.  Be it a horrible experience or pure Utopia, there isn't a damn thing any of us can do to prevent dying, so I don't waste any energy worrying about it.  I worry about what I can control.

Some of the results of those who "go under", as they call it, are scary first, then a deeper meaning is shown to them.  It really grabbed me and made me think.  Next time you want to see a movie that will get your brain racing, rent Flatliners

A friend of mine died for 3 minutes when he was knocked over by a motorcycle back in 1992. When I asked him about it he said he didn't remember much accept a feeling of floating in blackness and a sense of many eyes watching him.

I don't think I could do this. I couldn't flatline. There's always that possibility, however remote, that it could go wrong.

Apart from that, it wouldn't necessarily be conclusive. If we do go on after death to become spirits or wraiths, there could well be a transition during which we are unaware of anything anyway.

It might be a bit tight getting that ole spirit out of its body. Just like being born, and I can't remember a thing about that.
