Hauptwerk

http://www.crumhorn-labs.com/Hauptwerk-WhatIsIt.shtml

A virtual pipe organ--

Several major instruments around the world have been completely sampled,

and I can play them in my own house...

Of course, a passing knowledge of MIDI, a SERIOUS computer, and several gigs of RAM help a lot, along with two or three MIDI keyboards..

That, and being able to play pipe organ REALLY helps...

But you can just play MIDI files through it-- that, too, is pretty neat!

Here's a few pictures - there are pedals underneath that bench, just as you'd find on a 'real' pipe organ.

He is sitting at the booth of Classic Organ Works playing a sampled version of the E. M. Skinner organ of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Chicago. This Hauptwerk organ was produced by Brett Milan of Milan Digital Audio.

Here's what your PC screen looks like with Hauptwerk up and running:

Note that you can click on any of the stop knobs and that actually 'enables' that particular rank in MIDI -- which then when you play the MIDI keyboard, you'll hear the pipes from that rank sound.

The sampling is done with completely accurate sound-- including pipe noises, mechanical noises, wind blower noise, and everything--- including being in stereo -- such that if you wear headphones..

.. it sounds just like you're sitting at the console, directly under the organ (which would tower a hundred feet over your head and on both sides of you).
