Mercury's tiny orbit keeps it very close to the Sun.  So close it makes it difficult to observe.  Every few years, however, Mercury's orbit is in alignment with Earth's so that we can watch it silently glide across the face of the Sun.  A Mercury transit is a curious sight not to be missed if you have the ability to view it through a protective filter and clear weather.

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS USE PROTECTIVE FILTERS WHEN VIEWING THE SUN>

SUN GLASSES DO NOT WORK>

DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN>

The transit will begin 2:12:04 PM EST (11:12:04 AM PST) and finish at 7:10:08 PM EST (long after dark for east coaster).

Of course, as usual, it's overcast and raining here all day.  No chance of me catching this one!:badday:
