This thread has got me all churned up...

There's a new sort of butter available now in my local supermarket.  Sadly it's a New Zealand product. Nothing against Godzoners, but Australia DOES have a dairy industry. This is the only butter I've ever found which is actually spreadable.  And it is JUST butter.  No oily or chemical additives, just whipped up with air.

As for whether one should refrigerate butter - this is one of life's fundamental questions.  And I'm sure someone in this ultrareligious forum will be able to cite chapter and verse to guide us here. ? Leviticus, near the stuff about moving your neighbour's fence, perhaps????   We could all perhaps pray about it.

It's butter to keep it in the fridge (especially here, as it would be slop in a few hours at room temperature during the summer),   but have to remember to get it out half hour before you want to spread it!!
Must admit, I never remember in time, so have adapted to polyunsaturated marg for spreading or just use mayonnaise instead. (NOT with marmite)!!!

Generally I only use butter for baking these days and jacket potatoes.

Actually, it's a bit dangerous to try and change a lightbulb with buttery fingers too.

Nice to see you.

Hiya APam, it's nice to see yoo too!

And you're right, I never thought about how dangerous it could be to change a lightbulb with buttery fingers. So guess we should use margarine then? :bigwink:

As the beating of cream yields butter, and a blow to the nose causes bleeding, so anger causes quarrels. - Proverbs 30:33

Though what that has to do with the price of eggs, I really don't know...

Charles Dickens' Martin Chuzzlewit:

"It would be no description of Mr Pecksniff's gentleness of manner to adopt the common parlance, and say that he looked at this moment as if butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. He rather looked as if any quantity of butter might have been made out of him, by churning the milk of human kindness, as it spouted upwards from his heart."

Guffaw, Cars, and be very afraid, Theia!!!

Pussycat, I understand that butter should be put on your paws (preferably taken out of the fridge half an hour earlier) in order to keep you from straying, or something... maybe that's a chastity belt I'm thinking of.

As fer you, Britt - what can one say? You're just plain brilliant!!!!

(Pam snarfs to herself... geesch... I've been upstaged by Mr Dickens.. I gotta google myself the heck outta this.. mmmmmmmm... maybe a few mouthfulls of vegemite first, just to give me strength and night vision)

'The Queen of Hearts, she made some tarts, All on a summer day: The Knave of Hearts, he stole those tarts, And took them quite away!' `Consider your verdict,' the King said to the jury.
`Not yet, not yet!' the Rabbit hastily interrupted. `There's a great deal to come before that!'
`Call the first witness,' said the King; and the White Rabbit blew three blasts on the trumpet, and called out, `First witness!'
The first witness was the Hatter. He came in with a coffeecup in one hand and a piece of bread-and-butter in the other. `I beg pardon, your Majesty,' he began, `for bringing these in: but I hadn't quite finished my coffee  when I was sent for.'
