Last time I was at Disney, about 10 years ago, we went to this place that had great root beer floats. I had two ..and half of a third. NOT a good idea folks, no matter how good they are. What the *&@# was I thinking?

You could get a huge frosty mug of root beer and if I remember right bugers and stuff.

Do those place still exisit?

Are you meaning A & W Root beer stands?

YES! we still have one on Staten Island but they changed the menu.

Remember the:
Mama Burger
Papa Burger
Baby Burger
Hot dogs
Fried clams?

A & W Root Beer is excellent! Served on tap in a FROSTED heavy mug! Top it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

We have a cheap imposter here in the Republik Stewarts Root Beer Stands. Definately not A & W! You can get Stewarts root beer in supermarkets as well as A & W but the stuff out of the tap is far superior!

And yes! to Birch Beer! oooooh I have not been able to find this in ages but it's heaven! Less sweet than Root Beer and a bit more 'zip' in the flavor.

UTR, remember the orange wax whistles that used to come out on Halloween? Or the wax lips? Remember that funky taste they had? THAT is Birch Beer taste!

If you take a knife and score some bark off a white birch tree and chew on it, you'll get the flavor of birch beer. Careful not to confuse white birch with aspen!

My Grand Mom made me sasafras (sp) tea whn was little.
It cvomes from a root of a special tree, I dont know which one. She found it, dug it up and broke it home and pealed it.
The adults drank it hot but she put a lot in a big bottle and cooled it off.

We didnt have ice but my gosh was that wonderful!

That is from the sassafrass tree! I had a friend who was a life long girl scout and she used to make it.

You can tell the tree by it's smooth bark and tri shaped leaves.

*note: sorry bout that! the pic obviously didn't copy right. So I found a better link instead!

People who squirm at diet I find haven't had any of the non-saccharine (YECH!)

ones. I've actually made a couple of converts when the machines were empty

at work and they asked to have one out of my personal stash...

DIET BARQ's RULES!!!!!

If only it had caffeine... regular Barq's does, but not the diet... of course, I guess one may call it sad that I only drink caffeinated diet sodas, but I'm stickin' to it ::sgrin::

Not a problem for me... all decaf all the time! The ONLY time I get any caffeine is

if I wake up in the morning with a bad headache, then it's 2 extra-strength

Excedrin. Other than that, no caffeine for 8 or 9 years now!!

It took me a few minutes to find this thread.  I was a bit bored and was looking up sarsparilla, to see if anyone still made it.  Sarsparilla (also known as sasparilla) was kind of a root beer like soda pop drink.

Did find this one place that actually makes it..plus some interesting other flavors.

I remember the old A&W root beer stands here in the south when I was a kid. They had what was called a suicide mug. I don't know how much was in it, maybe a quart or more, but it was in a huge frosted mug, and was the best root beer I ever tasted. I remember when I was about 18, I would come home from work, and eat whatever was left from the supper table, then go to the cafe outside of town, and eat a large pepperoni pizza. Then, for dessert, I would drive the ten or so miles to the next town, and go to the A&W root beer place and have two footlong hot dogs, and a suicide mug of root beer. AH... those were the days, my friend.

At first, when I saw the pic, I thought it was Barq's or however it is spelled. A&W right on, a classic ...
