Yes, it's similar to root beer. It's made from herbal extracts; usually from birch bark.

Since it's not something I have looked for before, is it sold with regular soda in the supermarket?  Is there a specific brand you would reccommend?  I like to try new stuff so I have to try this.

I don't have a favorite brand...I like any birch beer. Yes, it's with the regular soda in the supermarket, but sometimes you might have to check a few markets before you find it.  My Italian restaurant serves some from the tap.

Frank shouldn't mind, since to me they are in the same family of soft drinks. ::chuckle::

Then I will just look around, try a couple different brands, and see what I like!  I don't even know if the kids have tried it but I doubt it since I haven't been nagged to buy any!  Thanks for the help!  I'll let ya know what I find and if I like it.

In my humble opinion, not a hijack..just a segway.  Anyway...I will nicely return to topic.  There is a restaurant here well known for making their own Root Beer.  There was a segment on the TV once about them and how they made it.  Interesting process.  And there is a difference in taste from sgtorebought.  Their Root Beer floats are to die for. ::beer::

There is still one in my home town, with the drive up where they bring the trays to your window. :) 

and they've put a mini version in a gas station near here.   So they do still exist.  But i think the menu's changed.  It used to be mama burgers, papa burgers and baby burgers.  now it's just a regular menu. 

And yes, I love those big frosty mugs of root beer.  I wish I had one right now.   On second thought, I want a root beer float.  ::beer::
