I read about this in this morning's paper.  Very similar to the cookie exchange parties, only with soup.  I have not heard of this one before, but here is an explaination of how it can work:

According to the article, this is best done with a small group of guests, 6 or 7.  Everyone makes a big batch of their favorite soup.  Then separate it in to 1 quart containers (the disposable ones suggested) one for each guest.  Freeze them all before the party.  Put them in a cooler to bring to the party.

Attach the ingredients and the recipe to each package.  Then everyone there takes a container of each of the soups.

The article advises to stay away from peanuts or anything highly allergic..or mark your package accordingly.  They also say that since you are freezing them, to stay away from cream soups or potatoes as an ingredient as they apparently do not freeze well.

An interesting thing for a winter get together.

OK, since it is geographically impossible to get together in RL to have a soup exchange party, how about a virtual one? Share a favorite soup recipe here.

Here is mine:

MANHATTEN CLAM CHOWDER

INGREDIENTS:
5 to 6 sliced bacon, diced
1 cup chopped onion
2 carrots, thinly sliced
3 ribs celery with leaves, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, or 1 teaspoon dried
1 large can (28 ounces) tomatoes, broken up, undrained
1 1/2 tsp. salt
Black pepper
1 bay leaf
1 tsp. dried thyme
3 medium potatoes, diced
2 or 3 cans (6 to 7 oz each) minced clams with juice
1 bottle (8oz) clam juice
1 tablespoon flour blended with 1 tablespoon melted butter or a little of the bacon grease, optional
PREPARATION:
Fry diced bacon until crispy; drain and transfer to 3 1/2-quart or larger slow cooker/Crock Pot. Add remaining ingredients to the slow cooker/Crock Pot; Stir to blend. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours

I'm cooking this recipe this evening.  One of my favorites that my mother used to cook, except I have the chicken already cooked and chopped, whereas my mother cooked a whole, uncooked chicken in the broth.

Chicken Noodle Soup

Ingredients:

4 cups chopped, cooked chicken

2 stalks chopped celery

1 cup chopped carrots

1/4 cup chopped onion

8 ounces egg noodles

4 cups water

8 cups chicken broth

1 bay leaf

1 tablespoon dried parsley

Optional: 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper,

1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram

Directions:

1. Add all ingredients except noodles into a large stock pot.  Simmer for 30 minutes.

2.  Add noodles and simmer for 10 more minutes.
